Review: All That Jazz by Natasha Boyd

My Thoughts

A sweet, sexy, moving second chance romance.

4 four stars

Synopsis

All That JazzThere’s something totally inconvenient about falling for your bestfriend’s brother. Especially when he’s turned into a pompous, arrogant, albeit annoyingly sexy a-hole that you’d like to punch or kiss to death at any given moment.

After a stupid favor that blurred the lines from friends to lovers the summer she turned eighteen, Jazz Frazer accidentally lost her heart to Joey Butler. For three years they’ve pretended there’s nothing between them anymore. Jazz is finally ready to move on with the rest of her life. She’s determined that experiences and relationships will be fun, casual and easy. After all, she learned the hard way that men just don’t stick around anyway. But when her best friend gets herself into a relationship with a celebrity, Jazz has to do the one thing she never thought she’d do, call Joey and ask for help.

Repeatedly thrown together, Jazz tries everything she can to protect her heart and not fall back in love with Joey. But when Joey finally admits that Jazz is the one he’s always wanted, all bets are off.
My Review

Author Natasha Boyd delivers a slow burning, friends-to-lovers second-chance romance that is both sweet and sexy, lighthearted and emotional. I loved returning to the South Carolina Lowcountry, to sun and sand, to a place abound with history and beauty. Long ago I fell in love with Keri Ann and Jack Eversea and it was then we met Jazz (Keri Ann’s best friend) and Joey (Keri Ann’s older brother).

We quickly realize Jazz has been in love with Joey for some time, but she’s also been hurt by him in a way that years later, the wound still stings. So time ticks back and we see what happened over the course of one memorable summer.

It was the end of high school, and the beginning of the rest of our lives.
Then it was summer.
I lost a lot of things that summer.
That summer changed me forever.

What began as a crush quickly escalated to a defining first love. And as with first love, Jazz’s heart inadvertently surged with hope that she’d somehow found something beautiful with her best friend’s brother. And as much as Joey seemed to feel the same level of attraction, when it came down to it, Joey would break Jazz’s heart.

Friends was apparently all he ever thought we were. Even when I was eighteen and naked under his body.

That summer delivered blows difficult to heal, memories forever scarred by heart break and disappointment. Three years later, despite emotions simmering under the surface, she was determined to move on, move away and seize new career-defining opportunities.

I’ve spent years feigning indifference to you.

As Keri Ann and Jack’s relationship still evolved, Jazz and Joey were there for Keri Ann should Jack break her heart. And as they are thrown together time and again, the lines once again blur as truths are revealed.

You’re like a hurricane, Jazzy Bear.  You would have changed everything. If you’d asked, I’d have given up my plans and dreams.

This time, it’s Jazz’s choice to walk away, or walk into the arms of the boy she’s loved for so long. And on the brink of seizing the dreams she’s worked for, the decision proves harder than ever.

All That Jazz was a great, quickly-read romance that delivered the right kind of feels between characters I’ve come to love.  It’s sweet, funny, sexy with some a delicious slow-burn tension. If you loved the Eversea novels (and who doesn’t?!),  you’ll love Jazz and Joey’s love story.

That’s the strangest thing about love; there doesn’t seem to ever be a beginning or an end.
It just is.
