Review: Alpha - Vilma Iris | Lifestyle Blogger

The first time it happened, it seemed like an impossible miracle. Bills were piling up, adding up to more money than I could ever make. Mom’s hospital bills. My baby brother’s tuition. My tuition. Rent. Electricity. All of it on my shoulders. And I had just lost my job. There was no hope, no money in my account, no work to be found. And then, just when I thought all hope was lost, I found an envelope in the mail. No return address. My name on the front, my address. Inside was a check, made out to me, in the amount of ten thousand dollars. Enough to pay the bills and leave me some left over to live on until I found a job. Enough to let me focus on classes. There was no name on the check, just “VRI Inc.,” and a post office box address for somewhere in the city. No hint of identity or reason for the check or anything. No mention of repayment, interest, nothing…except a single word, on the notes line: “You.” Just those three letters.

If you receive a mysterious check, for enough money to erase all your worries, would you cash it?

I did.

The next month, I received another check, again from VRI Incorporated. It too contained a single word: “belong.”

A third check, the next month. This time, two words. Four letters. “To me.”

The checks kept coming. The notes stopped. Ten thousand dollars, every month. A girl gets used to that, real quick. It let me pay the bills without going into debt. Let me keep my baby brother in school and Mom’s hospice care paid for. How do you turn down what seems like free money, when you’re desperate? You don’t. I didn’t.

And then, after a year, there was a knock on my door. A sleek black limousine sat on the curb in front of my house. A driver stood in front of me, and he spoke six words: “It’s time to pay your debt.”

Would you have gotten in?

I did.

It turns out $120,000 doesn’t come free.

Alpha
By Jasinda Wilder

Review: Alpha

Whoooah… this story was scorching. A perfect mix of suspense and steam with a mystery that drove me wild. Our enigmatic man, our Alpha, is simultaneously alluring and unsettling, with a dangerous kind of streak that both entranced me and put me on edge. I knew Jasinda could write some incredible steamy scenes, but this one takes it up notches and notches making this book a thrilling, addictive combination that held me captive. I’ll be honest, I’m not typically an erotica reader, but this book, which certainly straddles the line between adult contemporary romance and erotic romance, had enough of a story that kept me wanting to learn more and figure out how it all would climax at the end.

“… nothing was ever free. Someday, someone would come looking for what I owed them. I’d just have to accept that, keep it in mind, and try not be too surprised when my debtor came knocking.”

Kyrie hasn’t had it easy. When her father died, the burdens of family responsibility weighed heavily upon her shoulders. Her mother was sick and she had to care for her brother as well. Provide for both of them when she hardly knew how to deal with mounting bills at all. Now, years later, the money was simply running out. With her studies, her brother’s tuition and her mother’s hospice payments, she didn’t know what she was to do. And of course, it’s a this dire hour that she gets this mysterious check from $10,000. She cashes it. She cashes the next 11 more than come to her knowing that the day would come when repayment would be due. To whom, she didn’t know.

“I’m here to collect you.”
“Collect me?…”
“Did you or did you not cash twelve checks, ten thousand dollars each, for a total amount of one hundred and twenty thousand dollars?”
“Yes, I did.”
“Do you have the funds to repay it?”
“I don’t. Not all of it.”
“Then you will comply.”

And boy does that day come. Whisked away suddenly, blindfolded, she enters a life unknown, a life of luxury, a life with a man who she cannot see, but whose voice sets her skin ablaze with its seductive tone. Afraid, turned on, anxious and curious, she can barely process the situation she finds herself in or what she ought to do. She has choices laid in front of her, but her curiosity gets the better of her, driven to figure out the identity of this man.

“Mystery man? Holy shit. He can turn me on with mere words. A whisper in my ear. A touch to my cheek. A kiss to my jaw.”

Our Alpha is sex on legs. His words are a turn on. His touches are fire. His promises are dreams. But he has secrets. Lots of secrets. Secrets that will change everything from the crackling dynamic between him and Kyrie. He’s incredibly private and no one seems to know him and somehow, she’s given access to him in a way that no one ever has.

“I am keeping a secret from you, Kyrie. A very deep, very dark secret. One that affects us both, and one that will change the very fabric of our relationship. And I am not ready to reveal that to you, either.”

As the trust grows between them, Kyrie begins to get to know this man, get seduced by this man and ultimately she starts to fall for this man. Their time together is supremely charged with a sexual energy that is undeniable. And as they succumbed to the all-consuming want they felt, I couldn’t help but wonder when the other shoe would drop. It seemed as if they were biding time before the real explosion threatened to blow everything up into pieces they wouldn’t be able to put together. And the more time transgressed, the more possessive our Alpha became over Kyrie… his own resolve beginning to crack and falter with this girl that he collected.

“Mine, Kyrie. You are mine. You belong to me. To me alone. I won’t share you.”

I will not spoil any part of what happens, and it’s difficult to even review this book without giving things away, so I’ll just say that it’s super hot, super suspenseful and entirely addictive. I had the opportunity to read this early in the process and I couldn’t put it down. I loved how the story ended, in a way that made you wish for more while letting your imagination run wild. I feel like the story could continue and I hope that it will! In my opinion, they are at the beginning of their turbulent relationship, which began under a kind of duress, under a shroud of lies and the thrilling burn of a scorching chemistry. I would certainly and easily devour another book with these two people, but for now, my mind is running wild with their adventures.

“I own you. I will always own you. And you own me. That’s the deepest secret I possess.”
