When the Brotherhood is called in to help, Boone insists on being part of the effort—and the last thing he expects to meet is an enticing, mysterious female…who changes his life forever.

Ever since her sister was murdered at the club, Helaine has been committed to finding her killer, no matter the danger she faces. When she crosses paths with Boone, she doesn’t know whether to trust him—and then she has no choice. As she herself becomes a target, and someone close to the Brotherhood is identified as the prime suspect, the two must work together to solve the mystery…before it’s too late. Two lonely people find love with each other as a disturbing murder case unfurls in J.R. Ward’s BLOOD TRUTH.

Boone and Helania’s story comes to life in this fourth installment of the Black Dagger Legacy series. Both Boone and Helania are all alone in the world, struggling to find solid ground. Boone’s sire has been killed, and his feelings pendulate between indifference and guilt. He’s a proven soldier—a trainee in the Brotherhood’s program, but out of concern for his wellbeing, he’s temporarily taken off rotation. Boone pairs up with once-cop Butch O’Neal, as they investigate a brutal murder at a live action roleplay club.

Helania lurks in the shadows, committed to finding the killer who also murdered her sister. She’s all alone now too, fraught with grief from losing the only family she had left.

When Boone chances upon Helania, she’s reluctant to trust this towering, leather-clad vampire, but if she’s to avenge her sister’s death, she has no choice.

As Boone and Helania work together, the spark between them burns hot. They’re also both in such similar circumstances, understanding each other in a way they never expected.

But as the case evolves, they realize Helania is in danger and the killer is much closer than they thought…

I am such a loyal, longtime reader of J.R. Ward—it’s a joy to devour her books, which evoke a wonderful nostalgia. As expected, BLOOD TRUTH delivered, and I loved the suspense and mystery it touted. It was also great to see more of Butch, to see him as the homicide cop he was—so much so that I would love to see more of his investigating in future books!

We see Brothers, we see Bastards, and of course we get to know Helania and Boone as individuals. Boone, in particular, is such an interesting character. He’s both tough and gentle—a true male of worth.

BLOOD TRUTH was the perfect narrative to get us primed for THE SINNER, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Listen to author J.R. Ward chat with longtime narrator Jim Frangione on BLOOD TRUTH and all things BDB. The full interview (which is so fabulous) is available on the digital download edition of the audiobook.
