My Thoughts

A deliciously captivating blend of
wit, romance, sexiness and suspense.

Synopsis

forgiving lies coverA matter of secrets…
Undercover cop Logan “Kash” Ryan can’t afford a distraction like his new neighbor Rachel Masters, even if she’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. To catch a serial killer, he needs to stay focused, yet all he can think about is the feisty, long-legged coed whose guarded nature intrigues him

A matter of lies…
Deceived and hurt before, Rachel would rather be a single, crazy cat lady than trust another guy, especially a gorgeous, tattooed bad boy with a Harley, like Kash. But when his liquid-steel eyes meet hers, it takes all of Rachel’s will-power to stop herself from exploring his hot body with her own.

A matter of love…
As much as they try to keep it platonic, the friction between them sparks an irresistible heat that soon consumes them. Can Kash keep Rachel’s heart and her life safe even as he risks his own? Will she be able to forgive his lies … or will she run when she discovers the dangerous truth?

My Review

This was such a fabulous book. It was a story that was undeniably Molly McAdams with that captivating humor, clever banter and alluring sexiness we’ve come to expect, but it was also very different from some of the other books I’ve read from this author. It had an edginess that took a hold of me tightly as the suspense of the story escalated. This was a story that pushed the limits of trust and love, the precarious balance between being honest and keeping the ones you love the most safe. The characters were likable and relatable, and there was an ease to how the story unfolded, despite the thread of apprehension woven throughout.

Kash Ryan is in danger. His job as an undercover detective has put him and his best friend and partner at risk of being killed. With a notorious gang hot on their trail, they’re sent away while the peril abates and they land in Austin, Texas on a new assignment to find a serial killer. Their role in town must be kept secret as the search for the criminal continues. Kash needs to remain focused on the job … a job that he enjoys and in large part, defines him. But when he unexpectedly meets a fiesty brunette that turns out to be his neighbor, his thoughts immediately scatter and he can’t stop thinking about her.

“I’d known that first day that she was a game changer … “

Rachel Masters has dealt with her fair share of tragedy, surviving the loss of her parents and the depression that followed. But it wasn’t until recently that her whole world came crashing down, when she was deceived so thoroughly by someone she knew, her sense of trust shredded and the lingering fear left in the aftermath, now consuming. Paralyzing. The last thing she needs is a relationship. The panic that grips her will undoubtedly prevent her from ever trusting anyone again. One disarming look at Kash, however, and her body immediately reacts, betraying everything her mind works to supress. Kash seems like the perfect, enticing mix of bad boy and goodness, sexiness and mystery. And that’s a dangerous combination for Rachel.

“… while I knew we needed to remain friends, it was a near-constant struggle to get my body and heart to understand that too.”

Both Kash and Rachel have secrets they keep, reasons to not pursue the intensifying attraction they feel each time they’re together. And as their friendship deepens, their feelings do as well, and the walls that Rachel has built around herself begin to crack.

“Kash had been so right; he’d pegged me from the beginning.  I shielded myself from the pain … and no matter how hard I tried to push him, he pushed right back … and I wasn’t sure yet if I loved or hated him for that.”

Kash is kind, funny and fiercely protective. There’s an ease about him that Rachel really responds to and before too long, the walls completely shatter as Kash makes his way into Rachel’s heart. I loved seeing them together. They felt real to me … their relationship not overdone, and I loved seeing them fall in love and be happy together.  After everything Rachel had been through, she so deserved to find peace and love and the hope for a bright future.

“No one has ever made me feel like my heart is flying away but still holding me to this earth. No one has ever made me feel so at peace and crazy with one look. No one has ever made me feel so in love and terrified at the same time. No one until you… Trust me when I say, I’m completely yours.”

But when Rachel’s past refuses to release its vise-like grip, everything begins to unravel. There were parts that had my heart pounding furiously as I waited to see what would happen next. In addition, the secret that Kash hides begins to threaten as it everything converges in a rousing and dramatic climax. And just when you thought your heart would explode, Molly morphs that feeling of dread into a crippling heartache. And then again, leaves you breathless at the last possible second. I can’t wait to dig in to book 2, as this book concludes with a to-die-for cliffhanger, but lucky for us, March 4th — the release date of Deceiving Lies —  is just around the corner. Don’t miss out on this fresh and intriguing read!
