Review: Keep Her Safe - Vilma Iris | Lifestyle Blogger

Noah Marshall has known a privileged and comfortable life thanks to his mother, the highly decorated chief of the Austin Police Department. But all that changes the night she reveals a skeleton that’s been rattling in her closet for years and succumbs to the guilt of destroying an innocent family’s life. Reeling with grief, Noah is forced to carry the burden of this shocking secret.

Gracie Richards wasn’t born in a trailer park, but after 14 years of learning how to survive in The Hollow, it’s all she knows anymore. At least here people don’t care that her dad was a corrupt Austin cop, murdered in a drug deal gone wrong. Here, she and her mother are just another family struggling to survive…until a man who clearly doesn’t belong shows up on her doorstep.

Despite their differences, Noah and Gracie are searching for answers to the same questions, and, together, they set out to uncover the truth about the Austin Police Department’s dark and messy past. But the scandal that emerges is bigger than they bargained for, and goes far higher up than they ever imagined.

Complex, gritty, sexy, and thrilling, Keep Her Safe solidifies K.A. Tucker’s reputation as one of today’s most talented new voices in romantic suspense.

Keep Her Safe
By K.A. Tucker

Review: Keep Her Safe

With Keep Her Safe, K.A. Tucker delivers her most addictive suspense to date—a nail-biting whodunit in the vein of Making A Murderer. Set in Austin, Texas, the narrative opens with police chief Jackie Marshall, roiling in a lethal combination of alcohol and guilt, as she talks to her son Noah in the kitchen. What at first seems like nonsensical mutterings of a drunk, becomes the unburdening of a dark secret she’s carried for years. Worse yet, as Jackie surrenders to her shame, she leaves behind more questions than answers.

Rewind twenty years, Jackie Marshall and Abe Wilkes work to keep Austin streets clean from drugs. They’re as close as partners can be. In fact, Abe and his wife, Dina, their young daughter Gracie, Noah and Jackie… they were a family.

But one night in a seedy hotel room changed everything. Choices made triggered a series of events that led to Abe being killed, declared a dirty cop. Dina and daughter Gracie were essentially run out of town, fleeing to Arizona, where Dina turned to drugs herself.

Now, Gracie struggles to keep her mom alive, while Jackie’s son, Noah, rises through the ranks working for his uncle Silas, the district attorney.

Noah feels the weight of his mother’s words, however, and drives to Arizona to follow her final request. But when Noah steps onto Gracie’s doorstep, it marks the beginning of a dangerous search to find out what really happened to Abe Wilkes the night he was killed. Was he really a dirty cop? What was Jackie Marshall’s role in it all?

Little did Noah and Gracie realize they’d become a target themselves, just like Abe, twenty years ago.

This well-plotted, fast-moving narrative packs plenty of surprises. Everyone’s a suspect at one point or another, and even when you think you’ve uncovered the truth, Tucker shocks with a final twist. A slowly burning romance weaves through the narrative, making the novel all the more addictive.
