Lots of sexiness. Lots of drama.
Lots of delicious mountain man alphaness.
Kristen Ashley does it again with another fast-paced, exciting, action-packed story full of heart, friendships and everything in between.
Ty Walker was wrongly imprisoned and for the five years he was inside, he honed his plan so when he gets out, he has nothing but vengeance on his mind.
But then he walks straight to stylish, leggy, beautiful, goofy Lexie Berry and he suddenly has something else to think about. He knows within seconds he wants her and within days he can love her but with the filth that was flung at him clinging; he also knows he can’t have her.
Since birth, Lexie Berry has been Lady Luck’s favorite toy and because of that, Lexie is cautious. But within a day, she senses Ty is something special. With her luck, however, she can’t trust it. Then she finds out what was done to Ty and she’s willing to do anything to make it right.
Even what Ty will never forgive her for doing.
Ty clings to vengeance and Lexie goes all out to give him back the time he lost. But Ty is battling demons within and they’re up against dirty cops and criminals who will stop at nothing to sway Lady Luck against them. All Ty and Lexie have is hope Lady Luck will finally swing their way.
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again. Nothing like a good Kristen Ashley book to have me grinning widely, enjoying myself with all the angst, love and drama that each of her stories entail. I never tire of it and although each story is different, the end result is always the same. Pure satisfaction. And I’m addicted. I can’t get enough of all the goodness infused in these stories. I love the tell-it-like-it-is style, the heartwarming friendships, the respect and love between our protagonists and the thrilling, non-stop-action situations in which they find themselves. In this case, the chemistry between Ty and Lexie absolutely sizzles with big-time, in-your-face-holy-hotness steaminess, yet it still feels like the most perfect, romantic thing in the world. So what’s this book about?
Lexie is on a job. A job she doesn’t want, but has little choice but to do, given that her now dead ex-boyfriend left her in a situation where his all-kinds of criminal, all-kinds of shady friend, Shift, called on her so often to do some things he needed doing. As long as those errands stayed within her boundaries, she didn’t feel she could say no. So here she sat, in the heat, outside of a prison waiting for a man to get out and give her further instruction.
Enter Mr. Humongo himself, Ty Walker. Hot, huge and half-black, the man was a beautiful sight to behold with his towering, brawny figure and his dark eyes and long lashes that peered at her with an intensity that had her backing up to her truck in half fear and half awe. Not to mention his scary blank scare not only unsettled her, but it seemed he didn’t bother to speak, wasting breath only when necessary and only in one or two word commands.
Lexi is all kinds of awesome herself. She’s classy, fierce and unapologetically her with tall wedges, big hair and lots of sass. Ty has been in prison for 5 years for a crime he claims to not have committed and there’s only one thing on his mind… retribution. He’ll do whatever is necessary to clear his name and his plan starts now and needs to get moving fast. But Ty, being a man imprisoned without a woman to admire in years, can’t help but be affected by Lexie. The story is told in alternating POVs, so we get to see his alphaness in all its raw, manly glory.
Yup, that’s Ty and I loved him instantly. Quiet, powerful, in-control, determined, ready to grab what he wants, when he wants it. With a plan to pursue and danger looming, Lexie finds herself in need of Ty’s help and a deal is sealed and their little road trip ends up becoming a destination wedding. So Lexie Berry becomes Lexie Walker.
Both of them have had painful pasts for different reasons, but one thing they have in common is that they’ve been abandoned by the parents that were supposed to show them love. For as much sass as Lexie throws, she also throws a lot of kindness and that starts to get to Ty. She’s a bright light he didn’t expect… she’s talkative, affectionate, open, funny, and “part-goof.”
And when Ty throws around words like that himself, Lexie can’t help but fall for him. We get to see their arrangement evolve into something more, then to a relationship that soon enough becomes real and rock solid. They are both incredibly affected by what each gives to the other and what they take from each other. They somehow work perfectly and before too long, what they have together becomes a need they can’t live without.
But it wouldn’t be KA if we didn’t throw in lots of action, lots of drama and a little murder, a little kidnapping and a little mystery to keep us irrevocably hooked. Ty was after his redemption and with that came a lot of danger and a lot of risk. Non-stop. I loved it. Ate it up. I was totally engrossed in the story from beginning to end. There was also heartbreak that actually moved me to tears. I continue to be impressed with her ability to pack all those emotions into a story and yet have us feeling so good and satisfied by the story’s end.
And as I briefly mentioned above, this book is HOT. HOT. HOT. *fans self*
Their time together is solid, sexy and wonderful. I enjoyed seeing them happy and never tired of simply reading their intimate, direct and very them dialogue. They had lots of issues to overcome, but it was clear fast that to win this war, they had to work together and be there for each other every step of the way.
We see a lot of Tate and Laurie from book 2, Sweet Dreams, and we get to know Chace Keaton as a supporting character, who will be our hero in the next book, Breathe. Overall, this story is about turning around all that bad stuff and finding a reason to want all the good stuff. Lady Luck had not been generous to either Ty or Lexie, but when you have something so good, so fulfilling that the brightness begins to overtake the darkness, well you grab on to fate and you make things happen.
