Melanie Harlow, Author of Insatiable, Shares Top 5 Beauty Picks

So thrilled to feature Melanie Harlow on the blog today! This week she has a brand-new release, INSATIABLE, and wanted to celebrate by telling you a little bit more about her and her favorite beauty products—many of which are my own personal faves!

Read below to get the scoop on her picks and her new romance!

  • Greetings! Melanie Harlowprah Winfrey here, and I’m super excited to share my five favorite beauty products with you! I’m usually talking books, so this is a huge thrill for me, because I am a total product junkie.

    JUNKIE.

I’m a fool for pretty packaging. Celebrity spokespeople. Ridiculous claims. (“I don’t care if it costs a hundred dollars, Cindy Crawford says this French melon will take years off my face!”)

My obsession hit a whole new level after my husband got me a Birchbox subscription. I fell in love with practically every moisturizer, dry shampoo, lip scrub, eye cream, and perfume sample in the box. I mean, how did I ever live without my Love of Color lipstick in Color Me Confident?

But I have narrowed my list to my current five faves just for you—and all but one are under $50! If you’ve been nice this year, ask Santa to be nice to you.

    ORIBE DRY TEXTURIZING SPRAY $46

Look I’m an author, and we love our dry shampoo (Amika Perk Up and Sun Bum are my go-to brands), but this spray is amazing! I’m in my 40s, so my previously thick hair—which I complained about all my life and now miss terribly—is thinning at an alarming rate. The only upside is that blowing it out is much quicker! And once that is done, I douse my locks in this Oribe spray, and poof! Instant volume, texture, and sexy messy tresses.

    EMBRYOLISSE LAIT-CRÈME CONCENTRÉ $28

Sounds fancy, right? That’s because it’s French. J’adore anything French, of course, but this moisturizer/primer is truly magnifique. A makeup artist turned me on to it, and I fell in love. It’s perfection in the morning or at night, alone or under your makeup. I have super dry skin, but I’ve gifted it to friends with oily and combination skin, and at first they think it feels like sludge on their face, but then it gets absorbed and their makeup stays put all night!

BECCA AQUA LUMINOUS PERFECTING FOUNDATION $30 – $44

This is a product I discovered watching one of those youngins doing her makeup on YouTube. (It’s ridiculous, but I’m oddly fascinated watching people do their makeup on camera. I can only assume it brings back childhood memories of my mom, the most glamorous woman I knew, doing her makeup in “the powder room” before a Saturday night out.) This adorable 22-year-old beauty recommended this product, and watching her smooth it into her skin, I was mesmerized. Surely, my quadragenarian complexion just needed a dollop of BECCA Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation in Beige to look so youthful and refreshed! Okay, so that didn’t happen, but I DO love this foundation. It’s medium coverage but feels nice and light, and never flakes.

TOO FACE BETTER THAN SEX MASCARA $25

So I’m not sure about the marketing campaign, but even if this mascara isn’t actually better than sex, it’s pretty amazing. When I’m not wearing lash extensions, this does the trick! I have very sensitive eyes too, and this product has never bothered them. Plus I LOVE the pink packaging. I’m a pink packaging slut.

    CAROLINE HERRERA GOOD GIRL $79

So my one pricier pick is this perfume, a gift from a friend, which smells divine. I’m not good at picking out the “notes” of a scent, but the marketing says almond, jasmine, and cocoa, which sounds pretty good to me. I always get compliments when I wear it, and it makes me feel confident and sensual.

I wish you voluminous hair, dewey skin, lush lashes, and total well-being this holiday season. And if you happen to discover a new product with stellar packaging and a hot celebrity spokesperson, tell Santa to send it my way.

    Love,

    Melanie

  • About Insatiable

I didn’t mean to see him naked–it was an accident.
    It had to be, right?
Because Noah McCormick and I have never been anything more than friends. In all the years I’ve known him, he’s never once laid a finger on me. And even though he was a cute lifeguard at 16 and a hotter-than-hell sheriff’s deputy at 34, he’s always been that protective guy I could trust to keep his hands to himself. I never wanted to mess with that.
Until I walked in on him getting out of the shower and saw his hard, muscular body totally bare and dripping wet. At that moment I never wanted to mess with anything so badly in my entire life.
I should have covered my eyes. Said I was sorry. At the very least, I could have handed him a towel.
After all, I was only in town for a few days, and he was just doing me a favor by escorting me to my sister’s wedding. It wasn’t a real date.
But I didn’t apologize. And he didn’t cover up.
    (Talk about a hot mess.)
After all those years of being just friends, suddenly we’re insatiable.
He’s made it clear he’s not interested in romance. Which is fine with me because
I’ve got a plane ticket back to my real life at the end of the week.
It’s all in fun…or is it?
