Review: Origin (#4, Lux) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

My Thoughts

Exciting, suspenseful, action-packed and fiercely sexy.
Daemon is back and did not disappoint. Love this series! #daemonskitten

Synopsis

ORIGIN coverDaemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

My Review

Daemon Black is back and boy is he pissed. With his sexy swagger, unstoppable arrogance and disparaging humor, he’s ready to burn the world down to save Katy.  I continue to say that Jennifer Armentrout’s paranormal series books are her at her best. She has this unique talent of weaving in the perfect blend of snarky humor, nail-biting action and heart-melting romance that grips me so completely. I felt the same way as when I read Apollyon (from the Covenant series)… I felt like it had been forever and it felt so right to jump right back in. And gosh, I absolutely never lost the vivid sight of the heart-paralyzing ending of Opal that may or may not have left me cursing Jennifer’s name loudly for leaving us with that cliffhanger! 🙂

“Thirty-one hours, forty-two minutes, and twenty seconds had passed since the doors had closed, separating Kat from me. Thirty-one hours, forty-two minutes, and ten seconds since I last saw her. For thirty-one hours and forty-one minutes Kat had been in the hands of Daedalus.”

Aw hell! Cue Daemon on a mission.

Not that we ever doubted, but Daemon is a man with a plan and that plan is simply to get Katy out by any means necessary. Being his perpetually confident self, Daemon is sure he can get out of any situation. But walking in to the dangerous bowels of the Daedalus is nothing short of mad. I loved his unrelenting passion for Kat, his unyielding resolve to do whatever it takes.

“Did you think you could stop me?… I’ll burn the world down to save her.”

Meanwhile, Katy is a prisoner, forced to experience some pretty horrifying things. Seriously, some of the stuff she has to do and that is done to her, had me cringing in fear of what would become of her. The more time she spent there, the more she couldn’t help but change under the circumstances… retreating into herself to deeply bury some of those frightful experiences so she could still muster the strength to survive and get out.

“And in that tiny second when I’d caved to the fury — nothing in a span of millions — I had changed, become something I wasn’t sure I could ever come back from.”

The Daedalus had a story they were spinning that had me questioning right from wrong, pondering the intentions of all the players in the game. But the truth was elusive and all that was left was more questions.

“The organization might have pretty packaging, but it was rotten inside.”

Despite Katy and Daemon finally re-uniting in the less than ideal circumstances, it was the perfect collision of intense feeling… wariness, love, anger, passion, concern. I could really feel his heart brimming with love after so much longing and the settling relief that flooded through him as he realized Katy was alive and somewhat okay. But Daemon is all love and romance, in his own rough-around-the-edges Daemon way. I just ate it all up. I loved it!

“I love you,” he said, voice gruff. “I love you more than anything.”

Daemon and Katy experience some more awful things together and their resolve begins to falter a little bit as the situation becomes bleaker. And then… as Daemon says…”the proverbial poo hit the fan.”

“Well then, it’s time to introduce the world to a little bit of extraterrestrial awesomeness.”

In typical JLA fashion, the last part of the book had me biting my nails, speed reading and praying she wouldn’t leave us with a cliffhanger like in Opal. Well boys and girls, it’s not quite as searing as in Opal, but she does leave us wanting more now! By the end of the book, the situation has intensified to epic proportions, with a new dynamic at play. There is one more book in the Lux series and I can tell it’s going to be packed with action and drama. If you’ve been a fan of this series, you will love this latest installment! After all, what’s not to love about Daemon Black?!

ORIGIN

PS. Fans of the Sweet Trilogy by Wendy Higgins will love a little something that pops up!
I know I got all excited when I saw it! 🙂

I am both excited to no end that this Lux series will be made into a movie… but also feel like our input on casting is absolutely needed. The cover model is Daemon for me. MAN, he better have some acting skills! Now I’m thinking of Jace. Dammit. 😉

Haha exactly!! I have very high expectations for whoever they choose otherwise they could have a riot on their hands

          3. gabidaniels said:

Yeah, what if whoever is casted can’t pull off the proper amount of cocky/vulnerable/smart-ass? What then? All while maintaining hottest alien who ever fictionally existed?? *sigh* 10 more days

And if they lose the pen poking in the movie, I’m out! lol

Yess!!! It’s a lot to live up to!! He has to be PERFECT and each little Daemon quirk counts otherwise there’s nothing to get satisfaction from ya know?

The problem is this: We know him so well. I don’t know about you guys, but I’d crack a smile when shit happened… knowing Daemon’s reaction before he’d say a word. Of course he’d surprise me every now and then with something delicious like, “Bad Kitty” or “Naughty Kitty”.

          8. escapeinsidethepages said:

Haha yes I love the protectiveness that spurs a dangerous Daemon!
