My Thoughts

Fun, sexy and suspenseful.
Another Armentrout hit that has me anxiously awaiting for the sequel.

Synopsis

Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout shakes things up in New Orleans with her latest, a New Adult paranormal romance entitled Wicked, the first in a self-titled trilogy. Wicked is irresistibly sexy, wildly entertaining and teeming with Armentrout’s wry and memorable humor. She never fails to deliver an enjoyable reading experience, but this time, the story is enlivened by the wickedness of the Fae, and the mystery and decadence that is New Orleans.

My Review

As first seen on USA Today’s HEA blog

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout shakes things up in New Orleans with her latest, a New Adult paranormal romance entitled Wicked, the first in a self-titled trilogy. Wicked is irresistibly sexy, wildly entertaining and teeming with Armentrout’s wry and memorable humor. She never fails to deliver an enjoyable reading experience, but this time, the story is enlivened by the wickedness of the Fae, and the mystery and decadence that is New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan spends half of her days dangerously hunting Fae for The Order, the other half studying sociology at Loyola University. But fighting for The Order means her expected lifespan is significantly truncated… a fact she knows all too well. Four years prior, the Fae took everything from her, leaving her broken hearted and alone.

… they had taken everything from me. Not once, but twice, and I hated them with the passion of ten thousand blazing suns.

As a result, Ivy lives a closed-off life, never allowing people in, never hoping for too much even though she longs for more.

I wanted more, but I wasn’t allowing myself to have more–not really. Not the intangible things that counted most, like friendship with no walls, and real human contact. Lust. Love.

Enter Ren Owens. Six-foot-three of swoon-worthy, enigmatic man with startling green eyes. He’s intense with a dangerous, flirtatious edge. He’s the antithesis of Ivy’s carefully managed life and every distraction she needs to avoid. Unfortunately, she gets paired up with him when things continue to go wrong in the city. An evil is spreading and chaos looms, and Ren and Ivy must work together to keep the Fae from unleashing the worst.

As danger nears and secrets swirl, Ren and Ivy cling to one another, despite Ivy’s fear of losing it all once more. Because this time, her heart is in deeper than she ever expected.

I can’t promise that I’m not going anywhere, but I’m going to try damn hard not to. That is one thing I’m going to tell you to trust.

Likeable characters (TINK!!!), action, suspense, humor, heart and sexiness–Jennifer L. Armentrout balances it all perfectly in this exciting first installment which ends in a give-me-the-next-book-now kind of twist.
