Review: All Your Perfects - Vilma Iris | Lifestyle Blogger

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Us—whose writing is “emotionally wrenching and utterly original” (Sarah Shepard, New York Times bestselling author of the Pretty Little Liars series)—delivers a tour de force novel about a troubled marriage and the one old forgotten promise that might be able to save it.

Quinn and Graham’s perfect love is threatened by their imperfect marriage. The memories, mistakes, and secrets that they have built up over the years are now tearing them apart. The one thing that could save them might also be the very thing that pushes their marriage beyond the point of repair.

All Your Perfects is a profound novel about a damaged couple whose potential future hinges on promises made in the past. This is a heartbreaking page-turner that asks: Can a resounding love with a perfect beginning survive a lifetime between two imperfect people?

Review: All Your Perfects

A marriage teeters on the brink of collapse as hidden heartache widens the chasm between soulmates.

With ALL YOUR PERFECTS, Colleen Hoover pens an intimate story of love as it begins, and as it threatens to end. Hoover hits all the right notes, driving poignancy through relatability. She unpacks the burden of intimacy when a marriage is frayed, as well as the complicated dynamic that results when life forces you down an unimaginable path.

Told in alternating then and now chapters, Hoover deftly juxtaposes the hope at the relationship’s beginning, and the despondency felt as it comes apart.

Quinn and Graham should never have met, but fate (and bad decisions), pushed them together across a narrow hallway, facing a door that signaled a new chapter for them both.

But despite unlikely beginnings, Quinn and Graham flourish as a young couple, full of wit and verve and promises and dreams. Fast forward to the future, however, and their relationship has become a painful routine of detachment—a life pulled apart by secrets too painful to share, secrets that fester and give rise to anger and blame.

“Our marriage didn’t collapse. It didn’t suddenly fall apart.

It’s been a much slower process.

It’s been dwindling, if you will…

We don’t talk about it…

In our defense, it’s hard to admit that a marriage might be over when the love is still there… The problem is, love and happiness are not concordant. One can exist without the other.”

For them, it’s broken promises and silent pain that tears them apart, but for other marriages, it can be one of many things. And within this frame of relatability, the heartache for them is felt deeply with the portrayal of a marriage in crisis quite raw.

This is one of my favorite CoHo books. It felt unfiltered and honest, unfettered by quixotic plot plays that would tie it all together with a nice bow. Quinn and Graham loved each other deeply, but they were imperfectly real, trying to figure out which mistakes and choices defined them and which were simply a part of a continuing narrative they wrote together.

ALL YOUR PERFECTS is a beautiful, heart wrenching, utterly real glimpse into a marriage struggling to survive.

“I have loved you every single second of every day since the moment I laid eyes on you.”
