Review: Aurora Burning - Vilma Iris | Lifestyle Blogger

Our heroes are back . . . kind of. From the bestselling co-authors of the Illuminae Files comes the second book in the epic Aurora Cycle series about a squad of misfits, losers, and discipline cases who just might be the galaxy’s best hope for survival.

First, the bad news: an ancient evil–you know, your standard consume-all-life-in-the-galaxy deal–is about to be unleashed. The good news? Squad 312 is standing by to save the day. They’ve just got to take care of a few small distractions first.

Like the clan of gremps who’d like to rearrange their favorite faces.

And the cadre of illegit GIA agents with creepy flowers where their eyes used to be, who’ll stop at nothing to get their hands on Auri.

Then there’s Kal’s long-lost sister, who’s not exactly happy to see her baby brother, and has a Syldrathi army at her back. With half the known galaxy on their tails, Squad 312 has never felt so wanted.

When they learn the Hadfield has been found, it’s time to come out of hiding. Two centuries ago, the colony ship vanished, leaving Auri as its sole survivor. Now, its black box might be what saves them. But time is short, and if Auri can’t learn to master her powers as a Trigger, the squad and all their admirers are going to be deader than the Great Ultrasaur of Abraaxis IV.

Shocking revelations, bank heists, mysterious gifts, inappropriately tight bodysuits, and an epic firefight will determine the fate of the Aurora Legion’s most unforgettable heroes–and maybe the rest of the galaxy as well.

Aurora Burning
By Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

Review: Aurora Burning

With AURORA BURNING writing duo extraordinaire Kaufman and Kristoff deliver an explosive, exciting, edge-of-your-seat sci-fi thriller which leaves you desperate for more.

Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff conjure sheer magic together, consistently imparting exhilarating, emotional stories we can’t help but devour.  AURORA BURNING—the highly anticipated follow up to AURORA RISING—is further proof of that.

Our favorite band of misfits is back and the stakes have never been higher. Squad 312 is on the run with most of the galaxy on their tail. To save the world from decimation, they must prevent the Ra’haam from taking over and keep Auri safe as she figures out how to fulfill an impossible destiny. Worse yet, Kal’s long-lost sister Saedii (an awesome new character) intends to draw him back into the Unbroken—the ruthless warrior faction of the Sydrathi helmed by the notorious Starslayer.

At every turn, Tyler, Scarlett, Zila, Kal, Finian and Aurora, must outrun, outsmart and out maneuver their many adversaries. It’s nail-biting non-stop action with threads of romance and twists aplenty. There’s a darker, grimmer tonality to the story that felt appropriate to their journey and helped to deepen the more emotional moments of the novel.

The narrative is thoughtful and layered, as the adrenaline-fueled plot unfurls and we uncover more about each character. Shocking twists punctuate the story, the aftershocks rattling, driving the desperate clamor for the next installment.

I love so many things about this book, about the series: the diversity of this ragtag crew, the impressive blend of scifi, romance, heist and suspense genres, the well-drawn, quirky characters, and the range of feels the story evokes. I’m Kaufman and Kristoff’s biggest fan and I can’t wait to see what comes next in this interstellar space opera.
