Surrounded by gardens, grass and sunshine, by a field teeming with vines and an unassuming cottage like those depicted in fairy tales, an unlikely romance sparks to life in Tillie Cole’s Veil of Vines. The story of Zeno, Caresa and Achille is one where tradition battles choice, where responsibility comes at the cost of freedom, and where love feels like an unreachable dream for the blue blooded of Italy.
Romance drips from every page as we are transported to the Umbrian countryside, an idyllic place for a love unadorned but fierce, to flourish. It was easy to be swept away into it all, rooting for the impossible, hoping for an outcome that defies the rules which have bound together generations.
We meet Caresa Arcadi, the Duchessa di Parma. A blue blood of Italy, Caresa was betrothed early on—a pawn in a marriage that would solidify ties and strengthen family legacies. And although born in Italy, she’d spent most of her life in America… now she had to forsake that life to marry the future King of Savona. A man known for his philandering ways.
Despite it not being the life she’d hope for, Caresa was resigned to her responsibilities as a member of the elite.
But she never expected Achille. A man who lived a life far from masked balls and fancy luncheons. He was beauty and simplicity and passion incarnate, a wonder to Caresa, a man she couldn’t help but fall for.
So the story unravels—a twisted tale of choice, tradition and a love that refuses to be set aside. And before Caresa walks down the aisle, truths that cannot be ignored change everything and the future looks nothing like what anyone imagined.
This is my first Tillie Cole book and I loved the transcendent, otherworldly feel to it, loved that I was swept away by the romance, the wine, the place. It was an addictive, fast-paced love story and one pretty much everyone will enjoy! Read it with a full glass of wine!
