Brazen and the Beast
By Sarah MacLean

Review: Brazen and the Beast

A chance encounter sparks romance between a smart, spirited woman and London’s beastly king of the underworld, in Sarah MacLean’s BRAZEN AND THE BEAST.

This highly anticipated second installment in the Bareknuckle Bastards series delivers in every possible way. Sexy, funny, poignant and oh so satisfying, beginning to end.

We first meet Lady Henrietta Sedley, who declares her 29th birthday as “The Year of Hattie” – one which she’ll fully own, stepping up to take over her father’s shipping business after she renders herself unmarriageable. Tall, curvy, whip smart and with no interest of following the course set for ladies of her time, Hattie takes matters into her own hands on a night where she’s to indulge in pleasure. She doesn’t expect to find a beautiful brute of man tied up in her carriage, resolute in foiling her plans.

Known as Beast in Covent Garden, Whit is taken off guard by the woman who frees him. As one of the feared “Bastards” however, he is determined to seek revenge with he who has wronged him… until Hattie proposes a deal he cannot seem to refuse.

Before too long though, Beast takes the upper hand in what will be an ongoing battle of business and pleasure, wills and hearts—but one he fears he’ll lose by the end.

MacLean knows just how to pen the kind of story that’s wonderfully irresistible and a joy to devour. Hattie is strong, smart, and laser-focused on the life she wants for herself. She’s just the kind of protagonist who fills you up, who you love to cheer for. And despite her strength—and Beast’s—they share a hidden brokenness that stems from what they’ve endured. Together, they learn to see each other as equals, as valuable despite their nonconformity. The love that grows between them mends the fractured pieces within and it’s a beautiful thing to experience.

This is a standout, sexy historical romance with all the feels…. and already, I cannot wait for the next fiery installment in this superb series.
