Review: Career of Evil - Vilma Iris | Lifestyle Blogger

When a mysterious package is delivered to Robin Ellacott, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman’s severed leg.

Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but no less alarmed. There are four people from his past who he thinks could be responsible–and Strike knows that any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality.
With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike is increasingly sure is not the perpetrator, he and Robin take matters into their own hands, and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men. But as more horrendous acts occur, time is running out for the two of them…
Career of Evil is the third in the highly acclaimed series featuring private detective Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott. A fiendishly clever mystery with unexpected twists around every corner, it is also a gripping story of a man and a woman at a crossroads in their personal and professional lives.

Career of Evil
By Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling)

Review: Career of Evil

I’m obsessed. Officially and totally obsessed with this series. Rowling’s masterful storytelling once again shines with engaging, nuanced characters and a wickedly plotted thriller. This third installment unflinchingly approaches the macabre crimes it presents, adding a third and highly chilling perspective from the serial killer. While it captured all the fascinating whodunit plot twists we love, the novel also felt more intimate, with a closer look at the relationships of and between Robin and Cormoran. I loved every minute of it.

When Robin Ellacott receives an unexpected package, she assumes it’s a box of favors for her upcoming nuptials to Matthew… instead, she’s horrified to discover a woman’s severed leg. Parallels to Cormoran’s missing leg become immediately apparent and he quickly surmises who could be behind the garish delivery.

Career of Evil chronicles the search for our killer, as Robin and Cormoran investigate three primary suspects from his past including his stepfather and two other men accused of rape and murder. We see just how far Robin has come from being the temp secretary to being a sharp-minded partner. Their investigation continues to escalate as our murderer continues to hunt down victims, keeping disturbing souvenirs of the flesh. Making matters worse, it’s clear he intends to make Robin prey to his proclivities.

The novel ends on a jaw-dropping, heart-pounding cliffhanger, leaving readers like me desperate and hungry for more. Career of Evil may be my favorite in the series so far, as I relished in the tension between Robin and Cormoran, as well as the suspense and chill of the mystery. Everyone needs to read this series!
