My Review

Trey and Harley haven’t had it easy. Both continue to work through the encumbrances of their pasts… working to let go of tragedies, pain and disappointments. Working to avoid falling back into the same unhealthy coping mechanisms. They’re finally together and determined to face a happier future with each other. Immediately, however, an unexpected situation threatens to destroy what they have and Harley begins to lose control again. And when the secret is revealed, Trey is left reeling… thrust back into the darkest place within himself.

“I’m wide awake… and the love of my fucking life has shot a bullet through my chest.”

Trey is quickly consumed by his deepest fears, craving the familiar numbness of his addiction. All at once his future – their future – is uncertain. And during this time when Harley needs him more than ever, Trey chases the same old tendencies, making a mistake that shakes him into lucidity.

“My feet feel unsteady and my breath is thin, but there is one thing I can hold on to — that I don’t want to lose touch with her. She is my rock, she is my hope, she is my every-fucking-thing, and so I don’t let go of her. I cling to her, my chin against her hair, her body gathered in my arms.”

Harley is still hurt by her past, unable to understand her mother’s actions and decisions. But I absolutely loved seeing the growth in her. She’s stronger and more confident, uplifted by the hope and happiness that a future alongside Trey promises. She’s determined to be a new Harley. A stronger Harley. A Harley that shares her secrets in order to let it all go once and for all. But now, they must conquer their issues together, and not apart, if it’s ever going to work out. It’s clear they’re determined to do so and I loved their moments together. Their love is palpable, their desire for the other ever-present.

“You and me not being together is like a snowstorm in Hawaii. It’s like a glacier on the sun. It doesn’t happen. It can’t happen. Because there’s no way we aren’t meant for each other, Harley. There’s no way it can be anything but this, he says, pointing from him to me and me to him.”

And as fate would have it, the moment when things begin to fall into their natural place, plot twists surprised me and had me turning the pages faster to see what would happen. Their past continues to be thrust upon them despite their efforts to leave it all behind.

“We’ve all made mistakes. We’ve all done things we wish we hadn’t. The goal is to learn and move on and try to live a life of no regrets.”

The last part of the book was incredibly emotional and heart-wrenching and I really felt every part of it. They’ve gone through so much and I wanted them to find that happily ever after. They have both grown so much emotionally and they love each other so deeply that they deserved all things good and happy. I thought Lauren Blakely did an amazing job with how things unfolded at the story’s conclusion and for me, it was everything I wanted and more at the end. Just perfect!

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. But you have to know that I love you more than I ever thought was possible. I have loved every second with you. You made me believe in love, you made me believe in myself, and you made me a new man.”
