Fall is my favorite time of year. The weather starts cooling down, the cardigans start coming out, the boots go on, the pumpkin candles get lit. There’s something magical and cozy that makes me want to be home all the time, surrounded by a warmth and aesthetic ideal for snuggling under a blanket and reading a book, and if you’re me, that means a glass of wine or cup of coffee in hand.
So yes, I love to plan my Fall decor ahead of time, thinking of what I can use from my ridiculous inventory of pillows and decorative items, and of course, which items I need to buy to complete the look.
This year, I kept flipping back and forth on which accent color I wanted to use. I knew I wanted shades of gray juxtaposed with creams and caramels, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to incorporate some dark forest and olive greens or some wine-colored hues. Ultimately, I decided with the latter since I have some great accessories in that eggplant color already.
Here’s more on my Fall inspiration.
Deep grays, warm creams, rich caramels and sumptuous eggplant and plum hues. Blush is a big color for Fall, so I might throw in minor touches to add depth.
Blending fabrics and materials is key. Think distressed leather, textured linen, brushed velvet and woven details. I want to bring in throws and blankets with fringe and beaded garlands to lay in and spill over decorative bowls. I also recently picked up tall birch branches which I’ll cut in half and use in a vase.
This year I want to better play with scale and layering. Leaning art in back of large stacked books, oversized circlets and tall birch branches instead of florals, interesting vignettes of decorative items atop of trays. Pine cones are sure to be everywhere too because they are my favorite fall accessory.
With such deep and dark hues, I want to inject a touch of unexpected shine with a few brass touches. Paired against dark colors like inky grays and navys, the gold can look strikingly beautiful. I love my side table, big brass lanterns and the small decorative items I can add without overdoing it.
