The first in an exciting new series by USA Today bestseller Kerrigan Byrne!

These men are dark, bold, and brave. And there is only one woman who can bring them to their knees…

Famed and brilliant, Lady Alexandra Lane has always known how to look out for to herself. But nobody would ever expect that she has darkness in her past—one that she pays a blackmailer to keep buried. Now, with her family nearing bankruptcy, Alexandra strikes upon a solution: Get married to one of the empire’s most wealthy eligible bachelors. Even if he does have the reputation of a devil.

LOVE TAKES NO PRISONERS

Piers Gedrick Atherton, the Duke of Redmayne, is seeking revenge and the first step is securing a bride. Winning a lady’s hand is not so easy, however, for a man known as the Terror of Torcliff. Then, Alexandra enters his life like a bolt of lightning. When she proposes marriage, Piers knows that, like him, trouble haunts her footsteps. But her gentleness, sharp wit, independent nature, and incredible beauty awakens every fierce desire within him. He will do whatever it takes to keep her safe in his arms.

How To Love A Duke In Ten Days
By Kerrigan Byrne

Review: How To Love A Duke In Ten Days

Kerrigan Byrne is beyond a master of her craft, infusing a fresher, edgier, intangible magic to her historical love stories. Fierce, independent, intelligent heroines leap from the pages, while heroes exhibit a nuance and depth often lacking in other stories of the same genre. Her latest, HOW TO LOVE A DUKE IN TEN DAYS, is yet another example of her prowess.

We first meet Dr. Alexandra Layne in her youth. She was a free thinker, a lover of academia, along with her two best friends Cecelia and Francesca. At seventeen, she experiences a trauma which would haunt her for years to come—a secret she would pay to keep hidden.

“The guilt, the shame, the memories, the fear. I lose inches from my height because of this weight on my shoulders. I lose bits of my soul each time I’m contacted. Each time I pay with my father’s money. I can’t bear it anymore.”

Now a revered archaeologist, she marries Piers Gedrick Atherton, the Duke of Redmayne and the man known as the “Terror of Torcliff” to save her family from bankruptcy.

Piers too is scarred by his past, bearing a fury that begins to dissipate as his spirited wife softens his hardened heart. But Alexandra’s secret threatens to be exposed and doubts begin to plague the smitten Piers. To make matters more complicated, someone plots against them, looming in the shadows.

Byrne impressively kicks off the Devil You Know series with a story all at once suspenseful, humorous, tender and passionate. Celebrating strong women, devoted friends, and a beautiful, unexpected kind of love, this book was an instant favorite. I loved it so very much. The incredible friendship between these three women is a standout, as well as the relationship between Piers and Alexandra. The way he really sees her, understands her, supports her (especially after learning of her trauma) is deeply affecting.

I’ll follow Kerrigan Byrne anywhere and eagerly await her next unputdownable story.

“If there is a battle to fight, a villain to face, I beg you to allow me the honor. Because the cruelest thing you could do, is sentence me to a world without you in it.”
