Steal a Real NFL Wife’s Game Day Look

When it comes to getting ready every morning, I’m a strict follower of the leggings and cardigan playbook. Uggs are optional, but also a favorite choice of mine. #Basic…ally. Part of it is because, well, frankly, I hate to do laundry and leggings are like five dollars from H&M, the other is because I don’t know how extra is acceptable for the school pick up line.

But when it comes to choosing a game day look, all bets are off and that playbook is thrown out the window. Being extra on game day is almost the bare minimum and while the choices and levels of fashion maven vary, all are fabulous.

The very first NFL game I went to, I’m pretty sure I showed up in my old college hoodie and jeans that may or may not have had a hole in the back jean pocket, but there is no proof and you’ll never know for sure. This was before wonderful blogs like Vilma’s guiding me to the bright side, but thankfully, I made friends who showed me the way by their perfect model behavior.

In my opinion, the best route to go is understated chic. Because let’s be honest, there’s a chance a beer might be spilled on you at some point during the game or that you’re going to be on your feet enough that those divine heels you knew were the best idea are going to make your toes bleed. Also, cement stairs. I can’t tell you the amount of times I almost went tumbling down those things. That pair of booties with the smart heel is where you want to be. And as a woman who values comfort as much as style, may I suggest that you find jeans with the appropriate balance of spandex woven in. Trust me when I tell you, you do not want to jump out of your seat for the last big play and feel a burst of air where your seam used to be.

Now, for the times where your team spirit is bursting and the pride you have for your man needs to be shown in a way that cannot be denied? I have one word for you: Crystals.

In INTERCEPTED, the only thing Marlee might love more than the hero—and a well made margarita—is bling. And nothing says support and enthusiasm like a crystal encrusted logo.

Are there more subtle ways to represent for your team? Well, sure. But would any of those ways sparkle and glimmer under the afternoon sunlight of a well timed game? I don’t think so. And while these jerseys may seem like a ridiculous indulgence, if you are like Marlee and take particular offense to the trash talk that tends to happen in the stands, is there are better way to warn those around you to not talk about your player? I can assure you, there is not. Having “Mrs” scrolled across the top of your jersey in various sized crystals is the fanciest way to say “try it if you want” that has ever existed. This route might sound like a pair of heels that I just warned you against are the only choice here, and while that is pretty much true, if you can glue crystals to a jersey, you can adhere them to your shoes as well.

The best part of this sparkle filled tactic, is you can literally apply it to any article of clothing you wear. My husband played for two years in Green Bay and the majority of football season was cold. And not just your regular cold… it was a wet, down to your bones, type of cold. When I tell you that being cute wasn’t always an option, I mean it. In these times where you can’t show off your jersey, you can head to your local craft store, pick up rhinestones and glue, and attach them to whatever item you want. Hats, Uggs… sleeping bags, whatever you’d like. Plus, you can invite over friends, pop open a bottle of wine, and call it a party.

And that, my friends, is what I call a game winning play.

  • Marlee thought she scored the man of her dreams only to be scorched by a bad breakup. But there’s a new player on the horizon, and he’s in a league of his own…

Marlee Harper is the perfect girlfriend. She’s definitely had enough practice by dating her NFL-star boyfriend for the last ten years. But when she discovers he has been tackling other women on the sly, she vows to never date an athlete again. There’s just one problem: Gavin Pope, the new hotshot quarterback and a fling from the past, has Marlee in his sights.

Gavin fights to show Marlee he’s nothing like her ex. Unfortunately, not everyone is ready to let her escape her past. The team’s wives, who never led the welcome wagon, are not happy with Marlee’s return. They have only one thing on their minds: taking her down. But when the gossip makes Marlee public enemy number one, she worries about more than just her reputation.

Between their own fumbles and the wicked wives, it will take a Hail Mary for Marlee and Gavin’s relationship to survive the season.
