Meghan Quinn Shares Her 5 Favorite Teas

Meghan Quinn Shares Her 5 Favorite Teas

There is nothing I love more than a hot cup of tea and a good book. There’s something about wrapping my fingers around a warm mug, permeating the air with steeped tea leaves, and getting lost in a fantasy that soothes my soul—especially on a cold day.

Besides a comfortable place to sit, a warm fuzzy blanket, and my Kindle in hand, I need a cup of tea to top off the reading experience. Here is a list of five teas that are my absolute go-tos when it comes to getting lost in some romance.

Twinings English Breakfast

Super basic but this is my number one tea. Whenever I need something to warm me up, wake me up, or relax me, this it the tea I turn to and I know I’ll never be let down. Loose leaf and in a bag, both are great and should be a staple in your tea cupboard. I drink this tea with nothing in it but it does pair nicely with a dash of milk or honey for sweet.

David’s Tea Candy Cane Crush

Do you need something that taste like winter in a cup? This is the tea for you. Peppermint black tea with little white chocolate morsels, it will refresh you with it’s minty flavor but also provide a little sweet to your cup. This is a loose leaf teaf, best served plain–because you really don’t need anything to add to the flavor.

Tea Forte Caramel Nougat

This black tea will shock you in the best way possible. If you can make it past the adorable pyramid packaging with bendable leaf steeping thread, you will be in for quite the surprise. Almost like a melted Milkyway bar, this tea is packed with flavor and can replace any cookie in your cupboard. It’s my favorite from the high-end tea and can be bought as loose leaf or in a bag (the cutest bag you will ever see). Best served with the smallest dash of milk.

Bigelow Constant Comment

I never had this tea until I was at a book signing in Philly. It was freezing and I needed something to warm me up. When I saw the bag and it read black tea with orange rind and sweet spice, I knew I had to give it a try. I tell in love immediately and I make sure to always have a box in my cupboard. Perfect for any season, this tea can be found at pretty much any grocery store in tea bag form. Best served as a latte: steep tea, add a dash of sugar, froth quarter cup of milk, add to steeped tea, top with cinnamon—your life will change forever!

Yogi Perfect Energy

This is for every queen boss lady out there. Need help making it through the afternoon when the kids are pulling on your hair and won’t leave you alone? Are you falling asleep at your computer? Do you need that extra boost? Perfect Energy is exactly what you need. With a lovely vanilla spice flavor, this green tea and black tea combo will focus your mind and get you through those next few hours of work. I like to drink this tea plain.

Twinings Blackcurrant

BONUS – My all-time favorite tea has to be Twinings Blackcurrant tea. When I was in London, I went to the very first tea store (Twinings) and bought one single package of this tea. I was kicking myself for not getting more. Thankfully I was able to order more because the subtle notes of blackcurrant really add to black tea flavor in the best way possible.

Hope you pick up some new faves from my faves, and perhaps snuggle up with a hot cup of tea and a book. My new rom com, THE SECRET TO DATING YOUR BEST FRIEND’S SISTER, is out this week and I wanted to give you guys a sneak peek!

“Are you just going to sit there? Or are you going to come give me a hug?”

Like the shy girl she is, she takes a second to gather herself before standing and making her way toward me, one short heel in front of the other. I close the last few inches and pull her into a full-frontal hug. None of this side hug bullshit. No, I want her tits pressed against my rock-hard chest and my crotch whispering sweet nothings to hers.

Tentative at first, she doesn’t embrace me the way I would have hoped, so I tease her, like I always do. “I’m not going to explode if you squeeze me, Jules. Get in here.”

She chuckles quietly and sighs, pulling me in closer.

“Yeah, that’s it, give me the good stuff.” Her subtle perfume floats to my nose and kicks me dead in the dick. Shit, she smells good.

The embrace doesn’t last long, it never does, and before I get comfortable with her in my arms, she’s pulling away and straightening her blouse, pushing those glasses back on her nose.

“Do you want to take a seat and tell me why you’re here?” She’s never been one to simply shoot the shit. She’s orderly and professional, and so fucking smart, so she doesn’t waste her time talking about the weather, unless it has to do with a scientific thought. It’s how she’s programmed.

But talk about the humidity in NYC in the summer and how it’s ruining your outdoor life, she wants nothing to do with it.

In front of her desk is a sitting area with two chairs and a couch on a deep blue rug. She chooses the couch, and so do I. It’s all about body proximity.

“Good to see you too, Jules.” I adjust my cufflinks. “How have you been?”

Even if you try to shoot the shit with her, she doesn’t elaborate. Some people might find it awkward, but I take it as a challenge.

“I like what you’ve done with the place. This rug, is it Pottery Barn?”

She eyes me, hands in her lap, shoulders poised. “My assistant found it.”

I bend at the waist and rub my fingers through the rug’s fine threads. “Hmm, feels like Pottery Barn quality.” She doesn’t say anything, so I continue. “Had this beef pocket thing the other day from a pub in SoHo. Had potatoes in it and was so fucking good. They call it a pasty. Ever have one of those?”

    “No, I don’t believe so.”

“You’re missing out, Jules.” I casually pick at the arm of the couch. “Is it because the weather has been sickly lately? Is it just me, or does the humidity feel like you have to part the air to walk?”

She sighs loudly and relaxes into the couch, dropping the strong set of her shoulders. “Bram, what do you want?”

She’s giving in so quickly. I was just getting started. But since I know she is busy and I technically didn’t have an appointment, I get to the chase. “I came to find love.”

The room falls silent as Julia slowly rises from the couch, chest forward, as if some kind of exorcist shit is pulling her forward and spinning her head in my direction. Her reaction is valid. I haven’t necessarily been known as the settling down type, so this is coming out of left field for her.

    “Excuse me?”

I rest my forearms on my legs and focus my gaze, growing serious. “I want you to run me through your program. I want to settle down, and I couldn’t think of someone better to hold my hand while going through the journey.”

    Her nostrils flare.

Her jaw works side to side.

She crosses her arms over her chest.

“Is this one of those bullshit bets you do with my brother?”

  • About The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister

How do you date your best friend’s sister? Easy.

Step one: Pretend you want her to set you up with someone else. That will bring the two of you closer.

Step two: Go on date with lots of random women, proceed to get stupid drunk and talk about your best friend’s sister, thus gaining the courage to finally make a move.

Step three: Randomly show up at her apartment and confess your love. Women love that, right?

It all seemed so simple. A fool-proof three step process that will guarantee the love of you life to fall madly in love with you.

At least–that’s what I thought was going to happen. But my attempts to win over Julia Westin backfired in more ways than I can count. The thing about Julia? She’s smart–really smart–and her wicked gaze cuts through all the charm I’ve tried slinging her way. She’s not interested in games, my gifts, or my stories. She might want me too; but she’s not giving in that easy…

I am a tea drinker, too, so Ms. Quinn’s post about her favorites interests me! Here are some quick replies to her list:
    1. Twinning’s English Breakfast: Ana Steele’s tea of choice (also Erika James’s). This tea comes loose leaf in a tin, bagged and decaf. Try the loose leaf, it gives a little more flavor to each cup and you can adjust the strength. The decaf is excellent.
    2. Constant Comment. Agree, it’s wonderful. Also comes as decaf bags, same great flavor for later at night.
    3. Also recommend:
    * PGTips, brews in two minutes, bags of super-reliable, no variation, delicious black tea.
    * TAZO chai tea (not the organic chai, which has an off-aftertaste). Available at Target, Amazon.
    * Stash Earl Grey. The little grey foil packaged teabags consistently deliver. Amazon.
    4. For tea accessories (strainers) go to So many basic and exotic teas at this site. Recently tried their Yaupon tea, from a Texas grower (two women). The only native US plant with caffeinated leaves.
