Synopsis

My Review

Kendall Ryan’s foray into romantic comedy sizzles with a story about two people who do everything to avoid romantic entanglements. The novel—Screwed—is a super fun, fast-paced read that boasts an irresistible balance of sexiness and sweet. Sharp and witty banter between our protagonists, Hayden and Emery, quickens the pace, making the book all the easier to devour.

We first meet Emery, who moves to Los Angeles for an internship at a law firm. After a string of awful relationships with Mr. All-Kinds-of-Wrong, she’s determined to keep her head buried in law books and her gaze away from all men. Then she meets her landlord and neighbor, Hayden Oliver.

“He’s ridiculously handsome with an angular jaw that has just the right amount of stubble, and a ready smirk that begs to be either slapped or kissed.”

Hayden is an unfailing man whore. He’s a one-night-stand kind of guy who sees a girl no longer than one wild roll between the sheets. And yes, that includes his tenants. But when his best friend and partner, Hudson, bans him from taking any more tenants to bed, Hayden is stuck… especially with the hot new girl moving into apartment 4B.

Making matters worse, Hayden’s ex-girlfriend warns Emery to stay away.

“What did she say?”

“That you’re a dirty, man whore who’s had his fair share of fun. And then some.”

“True on all accounts.”

Before too long, however, Hayden’s charms melt away Emery’s cool demeanor and they agree to be friends. The more time they spend together though, the more their desires threaten to break through. Their easy friendship deepens into something more and real feelings come into play.

The real question becomes whether Hayden is able to change his playboy ways, even for a girl like Emery, who is smart, sexy and his equal in every way.

Screwed is a lighthearted and fast-paced story with easy, funny dialogue that keeps you engaged and smiling widely. It’s delightfully fun and exciting to read. Hudson’s story is out next in Monster Prick!
