Review: Searching For Someday (#1, Searching For) by Jennifer Probst

My Thoughts

Irresistibly sexy and sweet,
this is an original story about finding that elusive
snap, crackle, pop and being brave enough to embrace love
with whom you least expect it.

My Review

Jennifer Probst has this instinctive ability to mix in just the right amount of sexiness, steam, humor, angst and emotion to keep you completely charmed and captivated. She threads these elements together with that unwavering hope that the fates will always align to bring love when you least expect it. Her books bring out the hopeless romantic side of me where soul mates exist, magic happens and love endures. This brand new series encapsulates this spirit. I loved the story, loved the characters and it left me feeling happy and warm by the flip of the very last page.

“Loneliness hit. She was so tired. When was it her turn? When would she finally find the connection herself?… Maybe, just maybe there wasn’t a man or woman meant for everyone. Maybe, just maybe, she was meant to be alone.”

Kate Seymour is the smart, successful business owner of the matchmaking agency, Kinnections. Along with her carefully crafted process of helping others find their true mate, she has a special secret weapon. Kate was born with the ability to sense the energy of a true romantic connection between two people… a gift passed down through her family over the years. Kate herself is a romantic. She longs to find someone to share her life with, but long-lingering insecurities have taken root and she hasn’t found someone to love… or someone to love her back.

When Slade Montgomery barges in to Kinnections claiming their whole operation is a scam, Kate is shocked. Particularly when he decides to enroll as a client to prove her wrong. Kate takes the challenge gracefully. Slade is the gorgeous overprotective brother of a client of theirs who has been hurt too many times. He’s a successful divorce lawyer, doesn’t believe in love or fairy tale endings. He’s jaded… crushed by the harsh reality of broken happily ever afters.

“Magic is an illusion, Kate, just like love. Friendship lasts. Family. But romantic love is just a mirage—a glass of ice-cold Coca-Cola in the middle of the desert. You stumble and reach to quench the thirst, then find the glass vanishes right through your fingers.”

Both of them are unexpectedly drawn towards each other. A sexual energy crackles between them, an unexplainable allure pulls and the attraction sizzles to life each time they are around the other. But it quickly becomes apparent that what they’re looking for is wholly at odds. Kate wants the commitment of forever while Slade wants the unattached enjoyment of right now.

“Yeah, a matchmaker and a divorce lawyer. That’s got success written all over it.”

Their connection isn’t only physical, while in some ways there are completely different, in other ways they are so much alike. I love their verbal warfare! It’s funny and engaging and you realize how perfect they are for each other. Kate tries to stay away. She doesn’t date clients and it’s clear that she is nothing like the girl he looks for. So never did she expect that a single touch would forever alter their destinies…

“Why are you so innocent?”
“Why are you so hopeless?”
“Because my job taught me the truth.”
“So did mine.”
They stared at each other, barely breathing… He closed the last few inches between them, snagging her around the waist and lifting her up to meet his lips.
Snap.
Crackle.
Pop.

Kate is sure there must be some cosmic mistake. She can’t feel the things she’s feeling with Slade. The more time they spend together, however, the more their thoughts continued to be consumed by the other. Slade is drawn to Kate’s intelligence, courage and wit, as well as her kindness. But as things escalate, Slade is the one to call the whole thing off. He just can’t commit to giving Kate what she needs and deserves, regardless of how much he cares for her, how much he wants her.

“I’m not built for forever. At least, not with someone who thinks love is a fairy tale and we’ll live happily ever after. You haven’t seen the things I have, the truth of what so-called love does to people. There is no forever.”

“You’re wrong, counselor,” she said softly. “I’m not looking for forever. But I am looking for someday. I think I deserve that.”

I really felt the connection between the two protagonists. It at felt real… the disappointment and heartbreak, the hope, the desire and the joy. I visualized the whole story playing out like a movie… a favorite romantic comedy that pulls you in so completely. I also loved the characters, particularly Kate’s dog, Robert. You’ll see!… I’m so excited to continue with this heartwarming series and I can’t wait for the next book, Searching For Perfect, which is Kennedy’s book (out next April)! If you’re looking for your next romance fix with a little bit of humor and a whole lot of sexy, look no further than this book!
