TEN years to forget her
A MILLION stories in Hollywood
———–
I am not hurt.
I don’t need a second chance with him, or a life I thought I had.
While he was out forgetting me to become a movie star, I was building a career out of nothing. A career as a paparazzi, but a career. For a foster kid who bounced around every home in Los Angeles, that wasn’t easy.
This camera is all I have.
He’s nothing to me. Every time I take his picture and sell it, I remind myself that I did it all without him or his approval, his cinnamon smell or his clear green eyes. He lights up the screen like a celestial body, but he’s nothing but a paycheck to me.
He can throw my camera off a balcony, and nothing has to change. We can stay king and queen of the same city, and different worlds.
Except this is Hollywood, and here, anything can happen.
CD Reiss’ writing style shines in this second chance contemporary romance. This is the first I’ve read of CD Reiss and I loved her sharp, engaging writing style which kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. I also loved that the story felt fresh in so many ways. Our heroine is a papparazza who is fiesty, but closed off, operating in a male-dominated profession. Her love interest, is her old crush, who happens to be a Hollywood movie star.
In so many ways, Reiss flips the story. The heroine is the one who pushes off the notion of a relationship. She’s the one in control. She’s aggressive. She’s the girl who breaks through a bevy of guys to catch the elusive, perfect shot of Hollywood A-listers like him. Michael Greydon. Once upon a time, there was a connection. She had grounded him. He had gotten to her. And then he left and her life spiraled in a way that was irreversible.
Now Michael was at the cusp of hitting it even bigger. His next movie was a lifeline for more than just him. But the moment they met again… touched again… he knew she was trouble. She had a pull strong enough to make him lose control.
Nonetheless, as he struggles to retain control and keep his career from tanking, and she struggles to keep her feelings from the temporary high of physical pleasure, that connection sparks once more. Unavoidably so. When they’re together, there is a rightness felt, despite them living such different lives. She sees him, really sees him, and she feels cared for and happy in his arms.
But as direct and sharp and brazen as Laine is, we realize that beneath that strong persona, she’s vulnerable. She hides a past that could further threaten his career. And when their livelihoods are truly in trouble and the past threatens to destroy their fragile relationship, could they really last? Could they withstand the pressures of their own lives? Run from the non-stop shutter clicks that captured and revealed everything?
The story is a great second chance romance. Reiss’ unique writing style pulls you in from the beginning and keeps you engaged with the perfect mix of sweet and sexy. It was a fast, enjoyable read and a great choice for fans of well-written contemporary romance.
