Review: The Woman in Cabin 10 - Vilma Iris | Lifestyle Blogger

In this tightly wound, enthralling story reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s works, Lo Blacklock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea.

At first, Lo’s stay is nothing but pleasant: the cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, gray skies fall, and Lo witnesses what she can only describe as a dark and terrifying nightmare: a woman being thrown overboard. The problem? All passengers remain accounted for—and so, the ship sails on as if nothing has happened, despite Lo’s desperate attempts to convey that something (or someone) has gone terribly, terribly wrong…

With surprising twists, spine-tingling turns, and a setting that proves as uncomfortably claustrophobic as it is eerily beautiful, Ruth Ware offers up another taut and intense read in The Woman in Cabin 10—one that will leave even the most sure-footed reader restlessly uneasy long after the last page is turned.

The Woman In Cabin 10
By Ruth Ware

Review: The Woman in Cabin 10

Compulsive, chilling, and with a constant feeling of danger to feed your anxiety, Ruth Ware’s The Woman in Cabin 10 is a must-read summer thriller. This ‘whodunit’ tale channels Agatha Christie, keeping you guessing and on edge with an undertow of fast fraying emotions.

Journalist Lo Blacklock knows a killer hides in plain sight aboard the ship Aurora Borealis, but it quickly becomes clear that her questions are a dangerous riptide for those who wade too deep.

“… there is a murderer on this boat. And no one knows but me.”

Covering the maiden voyage of the Aurora Borealis was the opportunity of a lifetime for a journalist like Lo—it was a chance to prove herself. She boarded the ship rattled, however, shaken by a burglary incident just days before. She couldn’t sleep, couldn’t think, couldn’t forget the man who’d broken into her apartment. Lo was determined to get it together though, but fate had other plans as the luxury cruise sets off through the waters of the North Sea.

“… there was a splash.

Not a small splash.

No, this was a big splash.

The kind of splash made by a body hitting water.”

After a night of drinking, with her anxiety and lack of sleep fueling her restlessness, Lo awakes suddenly, heart pounding after she’s heard a large splash. When she looks outside, blood smears the glass of cabin 10’s veranda, as the dark waters swallow what looks to be a woman.

Her cries for help are fruitless, however.

Cabin 10 is empty.

No blood is found.

Every passenger is accounted for.

Could she have imagined it all? That’s certainly what everyone seems to think. But more proof appears, then vanishes, and Lo becomes relentless.

“I have to find out who did this to her… because if I didn’t find out, they might come for me next.”

The more she digs, the deeper she falls into something more dangerous, more complicated than she imagined, and there’s no going back from it all. Especially if she doesn’t make it out alive.

“What had I done? Oh God, why had I done this, kept pushing, kept refusing to shut up?”

Thriller lovers will relish in this fast-paced, twisted mystery. Unnerving and surprising at every turn, this will surely be a big book this summer.

This riff tries to capture so much of what is great about guitar. It celebrates open & barre chords, it celebrates clean and distorted single coil tones, it derives from a number of Fender-playing influences. Like guitar, I get it and it gets me. @Fender #UltraRiffContest
