Sizzling and sexy, thrilling and suspenseful.
This addictive serial by R.K. Lilley promises some exciting
twists and turns with this page-turning first installment.
ARE YOU READY TO TAKE A WALK?
Alasdair Masters is in a rut. He just hit forty, has been nearly celibate for the past year, and his life has turned into a daily sequence of lonely patterns that revolve around avoiding human contact.
His tidy life is turned on its head when a hot young blonde at the gym that’s been pseudo-stalking him decides to rock his world. A very young blonde. Way, way too young for him. The problem is, he can’t seem to tell her no, and she just keeps coming back for more.
It doesn’t help that he’s ninety percent sure she’s a criminal, and still, he can’t seem to turn her down. What is a dull introvert to do when a chaotic cyclone that oozes sexuality comes twisting into his life?
At first, he thinks she’ll give him a heart attack, but after his twenty-year marriage ended a year ago, he’s been a little lost, and when she comes crashing into his life, he realizes that he’s never felt more alive.
Is a walk on the wild side just what he needs to get his on track or a disaster in the making? Is it possible for someone that much younger to be just what he needs, or is she a fortune hunter, as everyone keeps telling him? Is it his hormones telling him that the mysterious younger woman is the one, or could it be more?
If you’re looking for your next hot read laced with suspense, secrets and that non-tangible thing that makes a book completely addictive, look no further than The Wild Side. R.K. Lilley’s first volume in this erotic romance serial was incredibly steamy and I couldn’t put it down. It had this thrilling, mysterious element that feels as if the story teeters on a precipice and you’re waiting for the fall to shatter it all to pieces. Our protagonist’s walk on the wild side is a palpable high and as we know, a high is always temporary. I could feel that sense of foreboding as I read. Every page inched closer to how the high would break and I wondered what would happen, how it would happen and what would happen afterwards. This new story packs all the steam we’ve come to expect with an R.K. Lilley book, and perhaps, even more so since the connection our two characters have is fueled by an unquenchable desire. Through it all, however, I kept wondering about intentions, emotions and reality as I too, experienced the nebulous, addictive quality this book delivered.
For Alasdair Masters, life had become routine. He had become numb. Money, he had loads of. But companionship. Vigor. Passion. Of this latter list, he had none. Recently divorced and now forty, he felt like a reclusive old man who couldn’t even find a lover without being too much of a to-do. He took care of his body, pounding out three hours of daily workouts at the gym. He had noticed a stunning young blonde who seemed to mimic his routine. He could barely look at her though, the guilt and shame of ogling a girl so young too present in his thoughts. But when that girl — Iris — approaches him one day, he’s too weak to resist.
Her words are flirty, tempting… her touches sexually charged and suddenly, for a man who has been so in control, he loses it all in a second.
For Alasdair, Iris comes in and wakes everything up inside. He’s been numb for so long and she injects a world of feeling, an addicting high he quickly can’t live without. She’s smart, caring, passionate, affectionate and Iris gives him everything he longed for and didn’t realize he needed so badly. For a man that had been celibate for about a year, having a beautiful woman give him everything and anything, it was simply the best possible delirium he could imagine.
With each day that passes, he bares more of himself, of his past, of his feelings, but for as much as she gives him, she hasn’t given him much insight into her. Iris is a bit of a mystery. She seems wild and untamed. She makes him feel commanding, strong, young. It was an interesting power dynamic to observe. I mused that she made him feel quite powerful, but I think she held so much of the power in the way he never saw.
The story really centers around their dynamic. We don’t know if they’re using each other or if there are real feelings that begin to emerge. We don’t know who she really is. We do know, however, that Alasdair is entranced with Iris. He was addicted to the way she made him feel and by the end of it, I was left goose-pimpled and wanting the next book right away! R.K. Lilley is quickly becoming an “auto-buy” author for me. Each book is deliciously addictive with enough story and character development to keep me begging for more! The Wild Side consists of 3 installments, the next one should be out in June and the final one in July.
