Synopsis

Music journalist Tru Bennett has done the impossible: capture the heart of rock-star bad boy Jake Wethers. Now they’re busy planning a wedding and navigating their new life together in the US. Of course Tru misses London and her best friend, Simone, but living happily ever after with Jake in LA is going to be great…right?

Wrong. Even the bright California sun can’t whitewash the dark side of celebrity coupledom. Greedy music execs, merciless paparazzi, and Jake’s wild past are lurking around every corner. Making matters worse, Jake announces he doesn’t want kids, which just may be a deal breaker.

Tru loves Jake more than anything. But when a devastating crisis threatens to destroy everything they’ve fought for, the couple must face the hard truth: What if, this time, love is not enough?

My Review

“There is no one else for me. I begin and end with you.”

Jake. Freaking. Wethers. I missed you, you hunk of a rock star! This book was one of my most highly anticipated sequels this year and it was perfect! The Mighty Storm is my favorite rock star read and I couldn’t wait to see how the love story of Tru and Jake would develop. Let me tell you this book did not disappoint… it exceeded my expectations. Whereas TMS was about them coming together, Wethering The Storm is about them overcoming past insecurities so they can stay together. They are just so right for each other. In this final installment of their story, we saw how deep their love ran and how right they were together. But staying together, overcoming their doubts and paving a future was not something that came easily. And for Jake, his top priority is to avoid falling into his old drug-consuming ways and risk losing Tru again.

“You don’t complete me, Tru. You make me who I am. You make me better. I’d be nothing without you. Nothing. I’ve been there once before, and I’m never going back. I’m never losing you again.”

In the last part of TMS, we saw how Jake almost lost Tru when he began using again (which really broke my heart). Jake needs to stay away from drugs and women if there’s a chance for them to make it together. But being the rock god that our man Jake is, well, he’s surrounded by temptation at all times.

“There isn’t anything I won’t do for you, Tru. Nothing I won’t do to make you happy. What I feel for you… it’s limitless. There is nothing before or after you. There is only you.”

Jake also needs to help Tru overcome her own insecurities. She is so afraid that he’ll succumb to temptation, sleeping with the groupies who keep throwing themselves at him. It isn’t easy for Tru either, to come to LA and live in the home where Jake used to sleep with other women. It seems that when they are on their own, they are blissfully happy, but coming back to the reality of stardom, paparazzi, slutty women and drugs, is anything but easy and these issues continue to threaten their future happiness.

As they discuss future plans, they also realize they are not on the same page on certain topics, and that really begins to divide them. There are times where I hurt for them and the fears they had, but during so much of the book, I was truly very happy to see them so much in love. Jake is beyond amazing, always telling Tru how he feels, sometime in his own over-protective, caveman ways, but nonetheless, it’s real and heartfelt.

And sometimes… ok… a LOT of times he SHOWS her. Did I tell you this book is HOT… because oh my word, IT’S HOT!!!!

But I digress…

With all the issues they are working through, they have to talk to each other and be 100% honest about how they feel and they really struggle through that. A lot of this book is about the quiet way they work through the very normal issues of staying together, always keeping their love front and center. Through their love of music, they sometimes find a way to talk and I loved the way this concept is weaved throughout the story.

“I love how music can elicit memories. And I love how even now it still binds Jake and me together. It’s our connection. It’s our connection. It’s how we talk.”

And then I was totally shattered. Something happens that left me in a ball of tears at 1:00 in the morning. Samantha Towle does an amazing job at getting us so engaged in the story with these characters that when one of the plot twists happens, it totally broke me. She pulled out every emotion I had leaving me totally shocked and heartbroken. But no worries, we do have a happy ending, but it’s not a happy skip to the finish line… it’s a pulse-pumping, nail-biting, tear-inducing journey to the end.

I have loved this series. Sure, there are quite a bit of rock star romance reads out there, but this one is special to me. I love that they were friends since they were kids, that they share this rich past, that they love each other heart and soul. The way the story gripped me is singular and I loved every piece of it. This story rises above the other rock star reads for me and I’m sure it will hold its place at the very top.

“Love is just a word until someone comes along and gives it meaning.”
