2023 Trend Report: Home Decor

2023 Trend Report: Home Decor

What makes design so fun is that it’s ever changing and evolving—new materials, new aesthetics, new innovative ways to put things together makes it all the more exciting. This time of year, I read as much as I can and consider what we’ve been seeing lately from some of the industry’s top designers and I share the trends that feel more timeless all while being defining of the moment. In 2023, we continue to see a desire for bold, moody and texture, while ushering nostalgia through floral and detailed flourish.

Here are 5 trends to watch for in 2023.

  • DARK + MOODY

Dark and moody is here to stay. Deeper, more saturated colors, trim to ceiling, continue to inspire cozier, richer spaces. This doesn’t only mean paint, however, moody can come through in darker wood tones or accent pieces and furniture. The look is particularly striking when paired with lacquered finishes and patinas.

  • FLORAL + NOSTALGIC

Nostalgic elements also continue into 2023, especially through floral—often moodier and baroque—wallpapers and textiles, as well as “grandmillenial” moments we continue to see on social. It’s about mixing eras, mixing high and low items, and evoking a sense of romance through vintage pieces.

  • STATEMENT MARBLE

This is my favorite trend of the year, and really, we saw it take off in 2022. It’s about marble everywhere—from backsplashes to kitchen islands to furniture pieces, but in particular, bold, statement marble with dramatic veining and tonally unique.

  • PERSONALITY + MEANING

When I was doing some research on variations of this trend, I read that it’s really about leaning into authenticity to prioritize joy and I absolutely love what that means. So as you consider designing or redesigning your spaces, bring in the things that are meaningful to you, the things that incite joy, items and aesthetics that evoke memories of favorite moments, experiences or people you love.

  • UPSCALE LAUNDRY ROOMS

Laundry rooms are getting more attention this year, and we’re seeing more “jewel-box” vibes, more elevated materials and more thoughtful design brought into these super functional spaces.
