While Maasโ has an impressive knack for penning long books which are easily devoured, I sometimes felt the 800+ pages of this oneโlikely exacerbated by the many narratives she wove throughout. Ironically, however, one of my favorite aspects of the book was the runway she gave to characters like Ruhn, Tharion, Ithan, Flynn, and Declan, who proffered nuanced storylines shaped by themes of identity, internal conflict, friendship, and redemption. Their development imbued heart in the story, anchoring its emotional center in a way I didnโt expect.
With plot twists and reveals aplenty, Maasโ masterfully maintains the tension throughout, buoying the storyline with humorous banter and searing chemistry. And speaking of chemistry, this second book is irrefutably steamier. Personally, itโs the vivid world building and thoughtful intricacy that draw me in. Iโm always in awe of Maasโ imagination and she significantly expands the world in exciting ways in SKY AND BREATH.
Lastly, while I thought this was a fantastic installment in the series, the end of this book elicited a very loud OHMYGOD with a single, game-changing line. I was totally breathlessโits shocking finale leaving me desperate for the next book. Moments like that one are what make me a forever reader of Maas. Counting the daysโฆ
