Exclusive Sneak Peek: Bane’s Choice

Coming this week is the first in an exciting new series touted as Sons of Anarchy meets True Blood. New York Times bestselling author Alyssa Day talks to us about the inspiration behind BANE’S CHOICE and shares an exclusive sneak peek with us today!

  • What could be better with Halloween coming up than a brand new book about vampires? I’m so excited that Bane’s Choice, the first in my new Vampire Motorcycle Club paranormal romance series, is coming October 27th!

I’ve been a fan of everything supernatural and mythological since I was a little girl. When the other kids in my class were talking about growing up to be astronauts and ballerinas, I told my mother that I wanted to be a great explorer and discover Atlantis—or be a werewolf.

(What’s funny is how I thought these were both equally and totally possible.)

The wonderful thing about being a writer is we get to play in our imaginations like we did when we were children. We can create characters and adventures and entire worlds in our minds and put them on the page. Daydreaming is actually part of our jobs!

(In other words, being an author is way more fun than it was being a lawyer.)

I wrote one book about a vampire years ago and have wanted to explore their world ever since. When I was daydreaming one day about What If? — how I start to plot all my books — I thought: What if a group of vampires decided to hide in plain sight? Nobody would believe it, so they’d be perfectly disguised by the truth. And that’s how The Vampire Motorcycle Club was born.

Here’s an excerpt. And Happy Halloween!

  • About Bane’s Choice

Sons of Anarchy meets True Blood in this sexy new series from New York Times bestselling author Alyssa Day.

Bane lost his humanity ages ago. Nothing is more important than protecting his Vampire Motorcycle Club from the death magic invading his territory. The most ancient of vampires, he seeks cold, unfeeling, bloody vengeance…until a frustratingly sexy human doctor is thrust into his path. She tempts Bane to distraction. And distraction is deadly in his world.

Buttoned-up and meticulous Dr. Ryan St. Cloud never thought she’d find herself in the mix of a motorcycle club, let alone one full of terrifyingly badass vampires. Or how intrigued she is by their dark and enigmatic leader, who seems balanced on the knife’s edge of killing her…or claiming her.

But Bane’s choice is harder than it seems, because when that danger hits too close to home, he’s forced to choose between her life and everyone else’s…

Ryan stared hard at the door she’d just locked, well aware of how flimsy a barrier it would be to the man who’d made the smashing noise she’d just heard. What had she gotten herself into?

Not that she’d exactly gone out looking for vampires to taunt about matters of consent, but she had followed him down that hallway. Maybe they could put that on her tombstone or on the outside of her cremation urn:

Here lies Ryan: If only she hadn’t followed that vampire to the bathroom.

Bane’s voice, somehow sharp and raspy at the same time, interrupted her mental ramblings.

“I’ll be in my study, if you need…if you need anything. There are clothes in the closet. Wear anything you want. You can roll up pants legs, or use a belt, or—”

When his voice trailed off, she heard a thud that sounded like he’d dropped his forehead against the door. She understood the inclination.

“Yes. Fine. Thank you,” she called out, proud that her voice barely shook at all.

She’d argued consent with a vampire. He could have killed her with one fang, probably, and she’d stood up to him.

Warmth spread through her. She had told him to stop—and he had. This man—this monster—who could take anything or anyone he wanted had stopped because she’d told him to stop.

She stood, wild-eyed and wild-haired, clad in nothing but her pride and skimpy PJs, and met her own gaze in the mirror as a smile started to spread across her face.

She’d never felt more powerful in her life.
