Finalizing all things Austin Book Fest, hard to believe there’s only a few weeks until the big weekend!
It’s also an exciting reading week, I’ve started The Great Hunt by Wendy Higgins and really into it so far! This is a retelling of a classic Brothers Grimm tale.
I’m also listening to Red Rising (on sale for $5.99), the first of this scifi fantasy trilogy. I had the chance to meet Pierce Brown this weekend here in Austin, and was so impressed by the discussion. He was great with everyone he met, including me, who in my usual introverted state, clammed up when we met! I’ve been wanting to read these books for awhile and I’m sooo hooked now. All three novels are out: Red Rising | Golden Son | Morning Star.
Have you all read these? Let me know what you thought in the comments!

Maybe In Another Life was my first Taylor Jenkins Reid book and I immediately just KNEW she would be an author I would love. Her writing style is sophisticated and smooth, her stories tackle complex, heart-rending situations in a relatable, evocative way. As soon as I finished Maybe In Another Life, I devoured After I Do and Forever, Interrupted, back to back, and just recently read and fell in love with One True Loves, coming June 7th. All four of her books are exceptional, compelling and gut-wrenching. All four are must reads. If you haven’t discovered TJR yet, the time to remedy that is now!
Don’t forget to pre-order One True Loves > read the prologue.
There are a lot of books I’m excited about in March, but here’s a select list of those I know I’ll be reading. I’ve actually already read The Winner’s Kiss already, and for those of you who are fans of the series, let me tell you that the conclusion is AMAZING!!! What are some of the books you guys are anxiously waiting for next month?

The Billionaire by J.R. Ward (Available Now)
Fun, sexy recommendation
This billionaire’s got it bad, and that’s not good… The first O’Banyon Brothers novel from New York Times bestselling author J.R. Ward writing as Jessica Bird.
Take-no-prisoners deal-maker Sean O’Banyon (aka SOB) eats Wall Street financiers for lunch. So why is he losing sleep over a sweet-faced nurse in old jeans and a too-big T-shirt? Maybe it’s those warm green eyes. Or the way she blushes when he gets personal. Maybe it’s the way she challenges everything he’s believed about himself for so long.
There’s no denying they have serious chemistry. But sooner or later Lizzie will learn his deep, dark secrets. First, he has trust issues. Second, the whole family thing is not for him. And, last, he doesn’t do relationships—even if there’s something about Lizzie that makes him want everything he can’t have…
A reader-favorite story previously published as The Billionaire Next Door.

The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig (Feb 16) – Read my review – YA Fantasy
Fantasy/time travel recommendation
Heidi Heilig’s debut teen fantasy sweeps from modern-day New York City, to nineteenth-century Hawaii, to places of myth and legend. Sixteen-year-old Nix has sailed across the globe and through centuries aboard her time-traveling father’s ship. But when he gambles with her very existence, it all may be about to end. The Girl from Everywhere, the first of two books, blends fantasy, history, and a modern sensibility. Its witty, fast-paced dialogue, breathless adventure, multicultural cast, and enchanting romance will dazzle readers of Sabaa Tahir, Rae Carson, and Rachel Hartman.
Nix’s life began in Honolulu in 1868. Since then she has traveled to mythic Scandinavia, a land from the tales of One Thousand and One Nights, modern-day New York City, and many more places both real and imagined. As long as he has a map, Nix’s father can sail his ship, The Temptation, to any place, any time. But now he’s uncovered the one map he’s always sought—1868 Honolulu, before Nix’s mother died in childbirth. Nix’s life—her entire existence—is at stake. No one knows what will happen if her father changes the past. It could erase Nix’s future, her dreams, her adventures . . . her connection with the charming Persian thief, Kash, who’s been part of their crew for two years. If Nix helps her father reunite with the love of his life, it will cost her her own.

One Day Soon by A. Meredith Walters (Feb 18) – Read an excerpt
He found me in blood and tears.
I stayed with him through darkness and fire.
We loved each other in the moment between innocence and bitter truth.
We were the kids easily ignored, who grew into adults we hardly knew.
We weren’t meant to last forever. And we didn’t.
He ran away.
I tried to move on.
Yet I never stopped thinking about the boy who had fought to keep me alive in a world that would have swallowed me whole. He was the past that I buried, but never forgot.
Until the day I found him again, years after believing I had lost him forever.
And in cold, resentful eyes, I saw the heart of the man who had been everything when I had nothing at all. So I vowed to hold onto the second chance that was stolen from the children we had been.
Sometimes fate is ugly. Life can be twisted.
And who we are can be ruined by who we once were.
For two people who had survived so much, we would have to learn how to hold on before we were forced to let go.
Standalone novel.

The Perfect Life by Erin Noelle (Feb 18) – 99¢
The perfect husband.
Colin Cassidy—the incredibly talented, extremely gorgeous, and unbelievably humble star NFL quarterback.
The perfect career.
As the recently-appointed executive director for the Boston chapter of Mending Hearts, a child abuse prevention and treatment program, my daily reward was helping to keep vulnerable, innocent children from being preyed upon and destroyed. It’s all I’d wanted to do since I was a teenager.
Perfect city. Perfect car. Perfect house with the perfect view.
From the outside looking in, it was impossible to find a single flaw in my life. I had it all. Everything I’d ever wanted.
But that kind of perfection came at a price.
Demanded the ultimate sacrifice.
What happened when I discovered what I’d been missing all along?
When I began to question if the lies were worth protecting?
What if suddenly the last thing I wanted was to be perfect?

Out of Focus by L.B. Simmons (Feb 19) – 99¢
“Shhhh, Cassandra, it’s our little secret.”
Secrets are stubborn things when they refuse to remain hidden. They tear through your soul, clawing and lashing until the pain becomes so unbearable, you’re left no choice but to silently scream your agony. No one hears you, of course. You smile on the outside and drift through life as though your mind is at peace, but all the while, you remain your own tortured prisoner. Sealed inside the darkened, soundproof room of your conscience, deafening cries echo as you plead for someone to unlock the door and release you from your nightmares. And eventually, when no one comes, you find ways to cope. To dull the suffering the only way you know how.
But what happens when you’ve become so numb, when everything around you has become so blurred, that you begin to lose focus on the saving grace standing directly in front of you? When you’ve anesthetized yourself to the point of losing consciousness, forced to watch as his once solid image fades away, lost to your reach in the haze as it smothers you?
What do you do then?
You fight. You heal. Then you bring him back.
Well, my name is Cassie Cooper, and it’s time.
No more secrets.
This is my story.
