I am a firm believer that having a clean, decluttered space will help declutter your mind too. For me, when my house looks a mess, I get stressed out and immediately feel overwhelmed because it’s just one more thing to add to an already long to-do list. And well, that’s no good. I’m sharing 5 quick organization projects you can do in 30 minutes or less, to give you major peace of mind.
You’d be surprised how fast you can clean up your fridge and of course, this makes a huge difference. I do this at least once a month and it’s liberating! Start with the top shelf, take everything out (yes, everything!), give the shelf a quick wipe and toss any old food. When you have more time and want to be really extra, you can always use containers and zone out the food, grouping like items together.
Okay, you may not be able to clean out your entire pantry top to bottom, but what you can do is A LOT. If you can only do one shelf, do it. Pull everything out, check expiration dates and toss what’s not needed. Long term, however, the pantry is really a place where I think containers are a MUST. I group snacks together so the kids can grab their school snacks easily, I also group canned goods, pastas, baking goods, etc in individual clear containers. Whatever works for you, but contain it, label it and then quick cleans become super fast and easy.
What’s laying around your house at all times? Is it toys? Shoes? Books? Artwork? Remotes? Throw pillows? Go get yourself a cute, on-trend basket at Target, and in 10 minutes, you can store these items in a basket that will also look great with your decor. This will also teach your kids to put these items away in the same place.
Look around your kitchen right now. How many things do you have out? Is it really necessary? Do a quick sweep and put the things away that you don’t use on a daily basis. If there are like items that you do use on a daily basis… CONTAIN IT, whether it be with a basket or pretty wooden or glass containers. Having a clean kitchen will make you happy… it’s a fact! 😉
The dreaded drawer. We all have it. We all hate it. A few months ago I took everything out and bought these great expandable wooden organizers on Amazon. If your drawer is a true hot mess, you may want to pick up some organizers first, but I found that even when I did the “big clean” it took me less than thirty minutes. Grab yourself a trash bag and take everything out of your drawer. Just do it. Put on some music and get it done. Trash what you don’t need. Use your organizers and enjoy the beauty of your results. Truth, the drawer will inevitably get junky again, but having the containers there will allow you to whip it into shape much faster next time.
Okay, so this isn’t an organizing project, but you’ve worked hard and I also believe having fresh flowers in the house every week just cheers everything up. So go get yourself some flowers, you deserve it! Pick up some wine, while you’re there too!
