The Last Widow
By Karin Slaughter

Review: The Last Widow

Karin Slaughter electrifies with THE LAST WIDOWโ€”a harrowing tale of domestic terrorism. A shocking kidnapping propels our story forward. First, a CDC scientist is taken from a shopping mall parking lot. Then, an explosion near Emory University sends Will Trent (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) and girlfriend Sara Linton (pediatrician and medical examiner) rushing to helpโ€”their effort ending in roadside bloodshed and Sara taken.

In a race against the clock, Will goes undercover to save her, uncovering the bloodcurdlingโ€”and imminentโ€”plans of domestic terrorists. Thoughtfully devised and with twists aplenty, Slaughter delivers another adrenaline-fueled plot. Well-drawn, nuanced characters and ratcheting tension keep you on the edge of your seat, all while touching on topics of white nationalism, misogyny, civilian militias and political discord. At 465 pages, there were parts of the book that felt just a tad slow, but all in all, this was another superb, spellbinding thriller from a consistently on-point author.
