Review
Proving your past can come back to haunt you, this provocative and disturbing domestic thriller will take you on a ride. Full of shocking twists and turns, My Husband’s Wife draws you in with a bevy of flawed, unreliable characters and an ever-shifting narrative that only promises more secrets.
We meet 26-year-old lawyer Lily MacDonald whose fast marriage to aspiring artist Ed begins with nothing but problems and trust issues. Problems exacerbated when Lily takes on a client suspected for murdering his girlfriend. Long nights keep her away from home, as their marital bed grows cold and resentment intensifies. Temporary allayment comes in the form of a seemingly sweet (but actually quite manipulative) 9-year-old Italian girl named Carla.
In offering to help care for their neighbor’s daughter, arguments cease if but for a day when Carla is around. And around she is, a lot, especially as she becomes Ed’s muse. Their lives, and those of others not yet mentioned, become irrevocably twined in a way that would change their fates forever.
More than a decade later, Carla is back—now a striking young woman, forging her own law career. She’s intent on avenging the wrongs done onto her and her mother, but with every scheming decision she makes, she digs herself deeper into situations she can’t quite control.
From there, the story unravels wildly, a string of deceit, manipulation and infidelity at the helm. Worse yet, when one of them is found dead, deeply buried truths hidden by self-preservation and longstanding hate come to light and culminate in a scandalous ending.
I’m still reeling from all the twists! If you’re looking for a book along the vein of Gone Girl and Girl on the Train, make this your next read. You won’t be able to put it down and you’ll certainly see a more sinister, chilling side of marriage.
About My Husband’s Wife
When young lawyer Lily marries Ed, she’s determined to make a fresh start. To leave the secrets of the past behind. But then she takes on her first murder case and meets Joe. A convicted murderer whom Lily is strangely drawn to. For whom she will soon be willing to risk almost anything.
But Lily is not the only one with secrets. Her next-door neighbor Carla may be only nine, but she has already learned that secrets are powerful things. That they can get her whatever she wants.
When Lily finds Carla on her doorstep sixteen years later, a chain of events is set in motion that can end only one way.
