Review: One More Chance (#8, Rosemary Beach) by Abbi Glines

My Thoughts

The best I’ve seen from Abbi Glines.
So much emotion. So much sexiness. Intensely addictive.  I loved every single moment.

Synopsis

One More Chance_coverGrant Carter did everything in his power to convince Harlow Manning that he was a good guy. More than a smooth-talker and someone she could trust. He had to overcome his reputation as a playboy, and his history with Harlow’s half-sister, Nan, a woman with a reputation of her own.

Harlow had taken the chance, falling hard and fast for the guy who thrilled her with his all-consuming desire. After a lifetime of avoiding bad boys like Grant, she had opened herself to the possibilities of love…

But a life-changing secret has torn them apart, and now Grant and Harlow must decide if they have enough fight to make it work – or if the pain of betrayal has permanently destroyed their future

My Review

Wow. This book blew me away. So heartfelt. So much emotion felt on every page.

I certainly enjoyed Grant and Harlow’s first book, but I loved this one. Loved both Harlow and Grant. Loved their story. I really believed in their love, in their pain, in their fears… in their hopes. I also loved how it still had that addictive, irresistible sexiness we’ve come to expect from an Abbi Glines book, but this time, it was their love story that really shined through. One of my favorite things about the book was how it was set up. We saw both Harlow and Grant point-of-views, and to wrench more emotion, we had letters we read through as the story unwound. Heart poured onto paper with words that felt intimate and profound. I was taken aback at the level of emotion I felt as I read. We definitely saw a more emotional side of Abbi Glines and this book is now one of my tippy-top favorites of her collection.

“I fucked up. I fucked up so bad.”

When the first book ended and Harlow left Grant, I admit I felt a mix of emotions. I was so angry at Grant, at how he had behaved throughout the book and certainly how he had reacted when Harlow revealed her heart condition. A part of me was happy that Harlow was strong enough to walk away, but another part knew that Grant loved her deeply and was simply afraid to lose her. The story opens with Grant drowning in regret, in pain and loneliness. Harlow is nowhere to be found and Grant’s desperate words to Harlow echoed loudly in the silence.

“I’ve never been so empty in my life. You took my soul with you. You took my heart. I’m this empty shell who goes through the motions every day, waiting for you to call me…. I never imagined a life like this, but without you, I can’t imagine a life. You are my life. You were what was missing in my life.”

Meanwhile, Harlow knew that Grant was sorry. But she had a secret that could tear them apart once again, a secret worth a fighting chance. Harlow loved Grant deeply, loved him still, but she wasn’t convinced that a happily ever after was in the cards for the two of them.

“I had imagined walking down the aisle toward a man who saw and loved only me. A man who loved me in all of my awkwardness. A man who loved me and my imperfect heart. For a moment, I was sure I had found that…”

Glines did such an amazing job of building emotion, longing, pain in the first part of the book, that when they finally see each other again I was breathless and ecstatic and nervous all at once. I felt so much closer to them both as individuals and as a couple this time around. I felt for their situation. For their fears. For their future.

“Give me one more chance. I swear, I’ll make it right.”

I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but I’ll say that this book focuses entirely on their future… on bringing their happily ever after to fruition. Could they do it? Could Grant overcome his fears of losing those he loved and be strong for Harlow? For the life they dreamed?

I loved Harlow so much in this book. She was always shy and reserved, but she had a fierceness and determination that I was really drawn too. And admittedly, I can’t honestly say I loved Grant unconditinoally in book 1 (he made many mistakes), but I completely fell in love with him in this book. He was a man in love. A man willing to take on the world for those he loved the most.

“You’re our beginning… It’s time we lived without fear. You’re the most wonderful chance I ever took.”

As I first mentioned, this is the most emotional, raw and heartfelt book I’ve seen from Abbi Glines. We see so much character growth and it was the raw emotion from our protagonists that held the story together beautifully. As with the other Rosemary Beach books, the whole gang makes an appearance, and as a huge fan of the series, that only enhanced my experience of reading it. I can’t recommend this book enough and I can’t wait to discuss it with everyone… because there is so much to talk about. I think this is Abbi Glines boldest and most heartfelt book to date and you won’t want to miss it!

“… you’re the love of my life. You’re my forever.”

    Hello Vilma!
I am completely in love with Abbi Glines. She is a brilliant writer. Here in my country, Brazil, Abbi’s books have been a sensation. Before I read e-book translated by a fan. Now, have the book published. Thank God!
Whenever I visit your blog, like him a lot and love to know about the news in the United States. Too bad it is not always released at the same time here in Brazil. Even a drug!

    A big kiss and hugs,

    Ane.
