Sexy, funny and enjoyable from start to finish!
A must read for fans of romantic comedies!
“I have a proposition for you.” Kacey should have run the minute those words left Seattle millionaire Jake Titus’s mouth. It’s been years since Kacey’s seen her childhood friend Jake, but the minute Jake mentions his ill grandmother, Kacey is ready to do anything for the sweet old woman. And if that means pretending they’re engaged for her sake-so be it.
But Kacey wasn’t counting on Jake’s older brother Travis still being there. She calls him “Satan” for a reason: she’s never forgotten the way he teased and taunted her. Yet when they meet again, Travis’s gorgeous smile is a direct hit to her heart . . . and Kacey’s more confused than ever. As the days pass, only one thing starts to become alarmingly clear-she never should have accepted Jake’s deal . . .
What a fun book to read! I was grinning the entire time! Rachel Van Dyken once again proves her versatility as a writer, delivering a wonderful romantic comedy with the kind of characters you immediately fall in love with. Kacey grew up with the Titus boys, one boy she sought as he protected her in school, the other boy she hated because he continuously taunted her. As they grew up, heartbreaking circumstances split the trio apart, particularly Kacey’s relationship with Jake, which ended in a way Kacey would not soon forget. But when Jake suddenly shows up, a proposition in hand, Kacey can hardly believe it. Jake broke her heart and the last thing she wants to do is accept any offer coming from him. Over the years, he’s become a playboy millionaire and knowing that he has to appease his family and the board to his company, he comes to Kacey… begging.
When Kacey discovers, however, that Grandma Nadine is sick, she suddenly reconsiders. She loves that woman and I have to say, after reading this book I do too! She’s a fabulously funny, strong, fiery and manipulative character and the book wouldn’t have been the same without her! Absolutely loved her! So that’s what it takes for Kacey to head back home to a past she both longed to forget and missed dearly over the years.
On the way back home, however, she realizes Satan… a.k.a. Travis… a.k.a. Jake’s older brother is also there. As kids, he always teased her and she figured he had hated her all his life and she, in turn had despised him. Unfortunately seeing him again proves that fate is a cruel, cruel friend because the man is absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, both Titus boys are devastatingly handsome and spending a weekend with two people who have hurt her in the past is hardly her idea of fun.
What ensues is one hilarious scene after the other as all three of them try and decipher their feelings and wants. Jake sees Kacey as the only girl he would consider settling down with, Travis struggles through the secret he’s kept all these years, and Kacey is stuck in between these two men who unsettle her one minute, make her angry the next, and quickly after that, have her swooning wholeheartedly! She knows, however, that both are trouble and her best plan is to make it through the weekend in one, unattached piece.
However, when Travis begins to show a side of himself that Kacey had never noticed, truths are revealed, chaos ensues and her heart is on the line once again. Will she risk getting her heart broken by a Titus brother a second time or will she run the moment things get real again?
Humor and heart, romance and sexiness… it’s all here in this wonderful romantic comedy. I loved the banter between all the characters, especially Kacey and Travis. I loved absolutely everything that came from Grandma Nadine. And I loved that this book had me feeling so happy throughout that it simply reminded me of the reason that I love to read. I adore Rachel Van Dyken’s writing, have loved everything I’ve read from her and I look forward to reading The Wager, which is the second book in the series, and The Dare, which will be out later this year!
